The last January, we visited Danushkodi and to visit Danushkodi was among the top in my travel bucket list. Danushkodi is a small abandoned town in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
We started our journey from Thrissur railway station. Our first destination was the Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.
One of the major attraction I was eagerly waiting for was the train journey through the Pamban Bridge. When the train started passing over the bridge, the rain started dripping just as the icing on the cake.
We reached the Railway station at 7.00am.
Since it was raining and lack of availability of cabs, we found it little difficult to reach the hotel.
Some how we managed to reach the destination and the hotel we booked was exactly behind the temple. Since it was a weekend, it took almost 4 hours for us to complete the darshan.
After the darshan and lunch, we rented a bike and started moving to Danushkodi. The road towards Danushkodi was extremely beautiful like a thin line in between the two large blue's.
Upon reaching the end of road, we could see local food stalls mainly offering sea foods. The relics and remains of the abandoned town can be seen everywhere.
The next day morning, we visited the 'House of Kalam', home of the former President of India Dr.A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
After that we reached Madurai. Since our train was at 1.00am the next day, we planned to roam around the city. We had our dinner from the famous Murugan Idli Shop.
We had their special Ghee Podi Idli.
Then we went to the Meenakshi Amman Temple and after the darshan returned to railway station.
Since it was a short weekend trip of two days, we couldn't explore much more in Madurai.
