About bike travel:
I thought of going one trip at least on bike. And it happened to be this one. Be noted, it is not east to sit in the back seat for 700KMs as we went in one bike. Be prepared with two helmets which covers fully not the half helmets as in general we will be going around 90-100 kmph speed. Carry googles also. Wind will be too much.
Route & Journey:
I have seen a couple of posts from bengalore to Hogenekkal but none from Chennai. It's 350 km From Chennai. We started at 3.40 am from broadway. Route is through Kanchipuram, Vellore and Dharmapuri. Most of the time we will be on NH and roads were awesome. No need to worry about it. It should take 6.30 hours of travel but we took 8 hours With breakfast & Tea breaks. One can get nice views while on road itself. As we started early in the morning, it was so good to be on the road before sun rise. We were literally waiting for sun rise because of chillness. Even after sun rise we could not find sun as there was too much fog. We got first glimpse of clear sky only after crossing vellore I think. When we are about to reach Hogenekkal waterfalls place, a little ghat road came where police checking happened. They were checking all documents including pollution. So carry all. The journey in the ghat road was good. I have seen the lower part from the hills where we are in ghat roads from different hills say Lonavala, Kodaikanal, Yercaud, Tirupati, Araku but here I felt the trees were arranged in a neat order.
Destination:
It got it's name from Tamil and kannada words. this can be reached from Tamilnadu and Karnataka. We reached at 12pm. We reached the place and parked the bike free of cost at no parking place. When we enter itself one boat guy tagged along us. After a little walk through the area where there were so many fish selling shops we reached the place where we have to buy tickets. We Paid 750 Rs. to authority for ticket. They will allow maximum 4 people in one kayak. They will also give life jacket. These they are doing after an incident happening. Boat guys will tell with 750 ticket only one waterfall they will take. So if u want to go in to main falls, they will ask 1000. I bargained for 700 for going near to that big waterfalls.
Going in pedal boat in Kodaikanal and Yercaud is very different in going in this in the natural Kavueri river. Depth will b 30-90 feet when u are going on.It was very big and water level was also good. One can get different feels in this journey as the views keep changing.
We stopped at a place for getting a top view. And after that we went to a small waterfall for bath. We came back may be within 3 hours. We had food in a hotel which comes before parking area and started back .There are hotels if you want to take rest. Tamilnadu Hotel is also there. Though we started we find it difficult to continue travel because of coldness, little drizzle, high wind, less light on the road and tiredness. So we took a hotel in Krishna giri. you can combine yelagiri (120 km) with this trip or vellore or bengalore or thanjavur. As we went in bike we were tired and didn’t go anywhere else. It was closed for last 3 months and they opened 15 days back only. Though I had thus doubt I don't know how to contact.
