While checking tickets on the Singapore airlines website for my vacation from Australia to India, I got flight options having transit at Singapore for more than 2 days. Instead of checking for other options of airlines, I thought of visiting Singapore. Well, I applied for a Singapore Tourist visa separately before my scheduled travel at VFS. And here I am in Singapore.
Day 1:
After a long flight from Sydney, I reached my Hotel at Clarke quay Singapore after 4 pm. After taking a power nap I decided to visit the greenhouses at gardens by the bay. I started at 6.00 pm and boarded a metro to Dhobi Ghaut and from there I changed the metro network and boarded a metro towards Marina Bay. Marina Bay metro station is the nearest one. After coming out of the metro station, I walked all way through the marina bay sands shopping mall and art science museum. I reached gardens by the bay at around 6.45 pm and wasting no time I bought a ticket for two greenhouses, the cloud forest dome and the flower dome. I followed the crowd and went to the cloud forest dome first followed by the flower dome. Both the domes have various species of plants and varieties of flowers. It also has a small gift shop for souvenirs and a small cafe. I grabbed a bottle of cold water and a small cup of sweet corn which cost me just 5 SGD. A mobile phone charge station is also available. I started from there at around 9.15 pm after experiencing the sound and light show at Supertree Grove. I took a taxi as I got a shoe bite from my new shoes. I had a Dosa for my dinner in an Indian restaurant which cost me around 2 SGD. I came back to my hotel room and shared my experiences with my mom and my friends.
And that's the end of day one.
Day 2:
Day 2 in Singapore started after having an oily breakfast, Egg Paratha which cost me around 2 SGD. Today my first destination is Jurong Bird Park. I started at around 10 am from Clarke Quay metro station and took a metro to Quatram Park, here I changed my metro line and boarded a train for Boon Lay, which is the nearest metro station to Jurong bird park. From boon lay, I again boarded bus no 194 which took me to Jurong bird park. It took around 20 mins to reach the park. I bought an entry ticket (30 SGD) and started with the Asian birds first followed by various types of parrots and Macaw. You can find Pelican and flamingo as well. Jurong park also has a gift shop and a cafe where beside snacks you can get meals during lunch or dinner as well. I started from Jurong park and followed the same route, but this time I got down at Chinatown, a stop before Clarke quay. Chinatown in Singapore is famous for its street food, souvenir shops and also for the Buddha temple and Murugan temple. I completed my lunch at Chinatown food street. I had fried chicken Singaporean noodles, the noodles were mixed with fried chicken, and broccoli sauteed in tomato, soya sauce, which cost me around 8.60 SGD. You will get a variety of Chinese food in this food street. Next, I went to the Tooth Helic Buddha temple followed by Murugan temple and Thiang Hock temple. Murugan Temple has a separate dress code for visitors. It is better to check on the internet about the dress code before visiting. After visiting all these places I went to my hotel room and took a power nap. In the evening I went to the most famous place the Merlion Park and experienced the sound light and water show of Marina Bay in the Singapore River. I clicked a few pictures and also managed to take some pics of mine as well. I came back Clarke quay by boat.
I had my dinner, this time I had a chicken meal which consists of rice, 2 vegetable preparation, and chicken curry. I had a coke and then came back to my hotel room. This is all about Day 2.
Day 3
I flew to India!
Experience and Tips: -
If you want to travel most places by metro (recommended) then it is better to use a metro pass. It is rechargeable. People are very helpful and welcoming. You must try Satay, it is a very popular food item in Singapore, though it is originated from Indonesia. For booking your accommodation you can check the homestays on the Airbnb website.
Weather: Humid during April
Food and Taxi charges: Pocket friendly (as per my opinion and comparison to Sydney)
Other popular places and activities: Little India, Sentosa Island, Night Safari, SEA Aquarium, River Safari, Trick Island etc.
