I always wonder how Switzerland is such a gifted country! Nature is all around. There are many hidden gems in the treasure of this nature. One such place is Seealpsee!!!
A uphill trek of 3kms from Wasserauen will lead to a magical alp lake - Seealpsee. This will take little more than an hour to reach. The lake is located at above 1000m altitude from sea level.
The trek starting point is full of lush green meadows surrounded by mountains. A stream of water will welcome you to this heaven. There are two trekking paths leading to Seealpsee. First one is with 1 hour 45 mins. Other one is with 1 hour duration. We choose the second one as it takes less time. The trekking is charming with good views. The trek path way is well laid. Even then i feel It's better to have a pair of trekking walking sticks. The path is uphill for almost complete way.
Trekking path is here
There was no clue of lake until we almost completed the trek. A sudden surprise package was waiting for us. Clear water with reflections of the mountains! Autumn colors was a cherry on top of the cake!! Mind-blowing views.
Its relatively a small lake. There is a walkway around the lake. There are 2 typical Swiss restaurants on the lake bed. Since we packed our own food, we did not try any food in restaurants.
Coming down in the same path took little over 35 mins. It was more pressure on the knees as the path was very steep. But in the middle of the nature it was all momentary.
For a day trip you can also combine this lake visit along with many other attractions such as cable car ride to Ebenalp from Wasserauen or visit to Appenzell. For a weekend you can add visit to Mount Santis which is close by. This visit can also be a day in itinerary of Swiss trip if you planning for a weekend or much more. As always in Switzerland, plan to visit on a Sunny day for good views.
