Did You Know That Snowfall in Srinagar Has Made Kashmir Colder Than Antarctica Right Now?

Currently, Kashmir is under the influence of 'Chillai Kalan', the harshest 40-days of winter, when snowfall in Srinagar is regular and the temperature drops significantly.

The snowfall in Srinagar has made it colder than Antarctica!

According to a report on Skymetweather, Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius on January 15, while the Indian Base Research Camp in Antarctica, named Bharati, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, making Srinagar even colder than the ice-bound polar region.

However, the town of Leh continued to be the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir, as the mercury there settled at a low of minus 14 degrees Celsius.

Fresh snowfall in Srinagar has also led to the shutdown of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, and has severely affected flight operations in Srinagar as well.

“Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has been closed for traffic due to bad weather,” an official of the Traffic Department told PTI.
