My itinerary was as follows:
Got the eVisa to Sri Lanka
10 April
Bangalore → Colombo 03:25 — 04:55 on 10th April 2015 Sri Lankan Airlines (round trip cost Rs 15241)
Reached Colombo Airport on 10th April
Changed money from INR to LKR at the airport
Followed the Wikitravel advice: Bus from the airport to Kurunegala, changed to a bus to Dambulla. Cost was quite minimal around LKR 300.
Bus to Sigiriya from Dambulla bus stand. Bus was quite crowded and hot.
Took the ticket to Sigiriya costing USD 15 for Indian nationals (double for westerners)
Climbed the Sigiriya rock. That was very tiring and took a long time. Took loads of photos. Saw the museum as well.
Then in the afternoon around 4 pm, took the bus from Sigiriya back to Dambulla.
I went to see the cave temple in Dambulla. That didnt take very long.
The cave complex has 5 cave temples.
I was quite tired by this time, so checked in to my Ranmal tourist inn hotel in Dambulla which was near the cave temple.
Had nice food just outside the hotel.
11 April
Checked out of the friendly hotel and took the bus to Polonnaruwa.
Took a tuk tuk in Polonnaruwa. Did the full day of sightseeing. Here too, the entry ticket price for Indians is half that of other foreigners.
Also saw the museum at Polonnaruwa.
At the end checked in at Seyara holiday resort at Polonnaruwa.
12 April
Spent some time in Kandy seeing the temple of the tooth. There was a big procession for a senior departed monk in Kandy.
I took the bus back in the afternoon to Colombo from Kandy. Reached in the evening
Had food near Colombo fort. Then took the bus to the airport from Colombo fort costing LKR 110.
13 April
Flight back to Bangalore
Colombo → Bangalore Mon, 13 Apr 2015 00:55 — 02:15 Sri Lankan Airlines
