Granada in southern Spain is well-known for the Alhambra, the Albayzin and Sacromonte caves. Granada is a heaven for a history buff or an architecture enthusiast with monuments and building with influence of the Moorish architecture. Sitting on Mirador De San Nicolas and soaking in the beauty of the Alhambra during sunset should be number one on your list.
I visited Granada in June 2019 and was mesmerized by the majestic Alhambra.
The first thing that I did after checking in my hotel was to take a bus to Mirador De San Nicolas to experience the sunset. It is an uphill ride through narrow lanes of the old town. The plaza is filled with tourists and street performers. It is the perfect place to see the whole city and admire the beauty of Alhambra.
There are cute cafes overlooking the palace and you can just sit there for hours. I did the same and when I returned to the city centre, it was filled with football fans. Football is a religion for Spanish people.
The next day was my chance to visit the beauty of the palace. So, I woke up early as I was eager to experience see the Alhambra. Even after all the efforts, I reached just in the nick of time for my guided tour. The tour takes over 2 hours and the whole plaza is full of beautiful gardens, ruins and the famous Nasrid Palace.
(Tip: Book your guided tour beforehand to get entry inside the palace and be on time.)
After the tour, I went back to the hotel, took rest and then went out to see the cathedral in the city center. The Cathedral in Granada is the seat of the Archdiocese of Granada. Its architecture, window art will enchant you. I spent the evening strolling in the city center, watching a street play and then a flamenco performance. There are many other attractions in Granada that you can see but I was really tired from my rest of the trip, so I ended my day early.
You must visit Granada if you visit Spain.
