Exactly how Work from Home (WFH), which was a long distant dream before 2020 but became a reality in 2020, so has the concept of working from any of the 46 countries that offers tourists to visit, stay and “workation” abroad - Digital Nomad Visa just made it happen!!!
What is a Digital Nomad Visa (DNV)?
Visas that are similar to tourist visas but with longer stays and authorizations to work in countries where the applicants are staying and make a living using digital technology, provided they are not employed by local businesses.
When would you need a DNV during travel?
When you are staying longer than the period permitted on your tourist visa and the candidate would have to meet the requirements of the DNV. The requirements vary from country to country and also includes the proof of funds that guarantees your sustenance for the duration of the stay in that country.
What is the need for countries to deploy DNV?
1. To encourage tourism – Covid pandemic has greatly affected the tourism-dependent countries where economic losses continue to rise. And with employers allowing their staff to operate out of the office confines makes it easier for employees to explore different countries and work from there.
2. A break from the mundane – Who doesn’t like a change in scenario after being confined to singular, boring workspaces!!

Pros
- You can enjoy a long peaceful working vacation all the while maintaining a steady flow of funds through a stable source of income (without having to compromise on career!!).
- Most of the regions offering DNV have steady infrastructure to accommodate the needs of remotely working like a strong wi-fi network
- The remote location of some of the places makes it inaccessible to all public and offers slight respite from the scares of the COVID virus. Also these destinations follow strict guidelines for incoming tourists.
Cons
- You have to have a job that’s remote and flexible because you would be working in different time zones and logging in hours would vary.
- Moving from one country to another is stressful and EXPENSIVE.
- In case your visa gets rejected for another country, you have to arrange for accommodation before your visa for the current country expires and you are forced to leave the country!!
- Hard for long-distance relationships to thrive in a temporary setting like this.
A Digital Nomad Visa sounds thrilling and adventurous to try out but it does come with its own set of downsides. As long as backup plans are in place, it is an exciting opportunity to be hopping countries, soaking in the culture, and be the envy of all!!!
