On Day1, We reached Johannesburg and stayed in dove's Nest guest house near Airport as we had to catch flight to Port Elizabeth next day early morning. We visited a nearby Emperor's Palace. A good place to hang out for evening. It has casino, bars, many restaurants. We had dinner at ocean's basket, a renowned sea food restaurant chain in SA. You can take Uber in Jo'berg to travel within city. It is easily available & safe as well.
On Day2, we took a early morning flight to Port Elizabeth from Johannesburg. From here we stated our drive to garden route. We hired a car from Hertz, just outside the airport. It was a nice comfy Silver Polo & drove to Happy Jackal Guest House near south gate of Addo Elephant National park, which is around 40 km from Port Elizabeth.
On the same day evening (day2), we visited addo elephant national park. We entered from south gate. It took around 1.5 hrs to reach main gate. We spotted many elephants, antelope, zebras, Impalas along the route. However no big five. We had to leave from main gate around 5pm to reach south gate before its closing time (6:30pm). We had dinner at Grunters Pub and Grub. Near south gate, there were limited options available for food. This was a good place.
On Day3, morning we visited near by sand dunes & beach. On afternoon we took a safari to Schotia Private game reserve. This is comparatively smaller game reserve. Guide will help you to spot big 5 (Lions, Rhino, Giraffe, Elephant, wild beasts). Being a 5 hrs private tour, they serve you enough snacks and drinks during the tour. The tour ends with a dinner and free drinks.
From Day4, We started around 1000km journey through garden route which included stays at knyansa and Gansbaii. The route is considered to be one of the best scenic roads to drive in the world.
On day4, first halt was at jeffery's bay. Then we drove to Tsitsikamma National Park. We took small one hour trail to suspension bridge. Also took halt at Bloukran's Bridge for bungee jumping at Face Adrenaline. Then we headed to Knyansa for stay ( Wind Mill Cottage).
On Day5, we visited Knyansa waterfront and thereafter headed to Mossel Bay. We had nice lunch at sea side King Fisher restaurant. They served fabulous oysters. Then we drove to Gansbaai for stay.
On Day 6, we wanted to go for shark cage diving. Sharks went deep into the sea for season, so no tours were operated during this season. So we took wine tasting tours with wine hoppers. We had lunch at Newton Jonson's winery. We drove to Cape town via betty's bay. Spotted some small penguins at betty's bay. Its was a one of the best part of our drive of garden route.
On Day 7, we were in Cape town. We stayed at Camp's bay. This is the best area to stay in Cape town. This is located between sea face and table mountain. You can enjoy view of table mountain and sun set from your hotel terrace.
We were in Cape town for 3 days.
On Day8, We drove to Cape of Good Hope via Campman's peak. This is very scenic costal drive.
On Day 9, we went to Table Mountain, one of the new natural wonders. We took cable car to the top. We booked cable car one day in advance and started early morning. In the afternoon, its usually cloudy and windy. There are many walking trails on the top of mountain. We took around 2 hrs of trail which gave us different views of Cape Town from above.
We also visited water front on the same day. We had lunch at Harbour's Cafe. At night we went to try one of the best stake serving restaurant Carne SA.
On Day 10, we had flight back to India.
Garden route from Port Elizabeth to Cape town is very safe to drive. Though it was not a peak season, there were many tourist on the route. Roads were in good conditions with sign boards.
