Coming back from Pune after a year, the travel bug inside me as well as the love for my hometown, Meghalaya made me sleepless the second night. The warm and comfort of home gave me a peaceful sleep the night I landed tho.😊

It was an early winter morning, as the sun rises early here there was a beam of light passing through the thin curtains of my room which felt directly on my face. I woke up, took my phone and it was 4:46 am. I called my friend Banrap insisting him for a day trip somewhere we have never been. Luckily, he agreed and within an hour I reached his house, honking in the silent street of Shillong.

He came and I drove straight down to Sohra, fondly called as Cherrapunjee by the tourist while he started searching for places on Google. We stopped at Mylliem for breakfast and yes we had the famous smoked pork with putharo (local baked bread made of rice). As we sip our red hot tea to warm us up, we agreed to the beautiful Arch Bridge located at Sohbar which is around 50-55 kms from Shillong. Much to our excitement, we asked the lady in the shop to pack us lunch too (rice, chicken curry and salad) which cost us barely ₹320 along with the breakfast.

The drive was quite mesmerizing with beautiful landscapes and hills overlooking the plains of Bangladesh but as we drive further towards the bridge, for almost an hour we had a bumpy ride.
The road ahead was rough with broomsticks farms on both sides, which in itself became adventurous.

Once we reached the spot we were gripped by its beauty and taken over by the irresistible clear water as we hike down towards the Wahrew river under the bridge where we can see colourful tents place in the campsites on one side of the river. We stopped by, took pictures and decided to skip boating and kayaking (we know they are quite addictive) and start heading upstream. Upon finding a nice spot we took a dip in the crystal clear water never wanting to come out again. After the refreshing dip, Banrap started preparing his fishing gears and I lighted a bonfire to heat us up as we munch our lunch. Once done we started fishing taking turns until it became dark and realise we need to head back. We packed our things, bid adieu and promise to return there soon for a night or two.
