Since 1990, Singapore has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and it’s easy to see why. There is so much this small country has to offer! The English-speaking locals are friendly, the climate is warm, the food sensational and that’s for starters.

Singapore is manageable due to its size (it’s less than 730 km²) and in addition to outstanding natural beauty, it’s bristling with state-of-the-art technology. It boasts a modern skyline and impeccably clean streets, yet more than half of Singapore is populated by lush greenery. These green spaces are cherished too, the Singapore Botanic Gardens were awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status in 2015.

So, let’s take a look at some of the best things to do in Singapore.

Jewel Changi Airport

If you’re arriving at Jewel Changi Airport your holiday starts the moment you step off the plane.

You don’t even have to be using the airport for travel because, among its many delights, it’s a haven for a spot of retail therapy. It also boasts Michelin-starred restaurants, kid and family fun zones and, the jewel in Jewel, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

The HSBC Rain Vortex, a seven-storey high waterfall with its own light and sound show, has to be seen to be believed. And like many of the attractions in Singapore, it’s completely free to enjoy.

Waterfalls Galore!

The Jewel Changi Airport waterfall isn’t the only artificial waterfall in Singapore. Below we’ll check out another two plus one natural must-see fall in the beautiful Botanic Gardens.

Cloud Forest: Gardens by the Bay

Head out to the Gardens by the Bay and check out the waterfall at the cloud forest. You can even climb to the top to watch the falls fall!

The Waterfall Aviary: Jurong Bird Park

As the title suggests, this is a great spot to visit if you’re up for a spot of birdwatching. And the Waterfall, one of the tallest artificial waterfalls in the world, makes this a bucket-list essential.

Ginger Falls: Botanic Gardens

This waterfall, located in the UNESCO World Heritage-winning Botanic Gardens, has a secret cave behind it. If you’ve ever wanted to experience a waterfall from more than one angle, this is where it’s at.

Marina Bay: Waterfront Promenade

There are loads of cost-free events to enjoy during the day. Highlights include the Helix Bridge with cool water sprays and breeze shelters to take the edge off the city heat. You can get fit with an outdoor yoga session, watch a free show and enjoy an awe-inspiring sunset view at the bayfront.

After dark why not hit a casino in one of the world’s largest gambling capitals. Or fire up your favourite poker site while relaxing in one of the many bars and restaurants on the 3.5-kilometre promenade.

Night Safari: Mandai Wildlife Reserve

Singapore’s night safari is the only one of its kind in the world. Choose from walking trails, guided tours or even a tram ride, this unforgettable experience should be a requirement when visiting Singapore!

You can make a proper evening of the night safari by enjoying an on-site dinner before or after your trail at the Ulu Ulu Safari restaurant. Resembling a traditional Singapore village, you can dine inside or out, and it's sure to be a hit for the kids.

Food Glorious Food: Everywhere!

Please don’t think we’ve put this last on the list because it’s somehow lesser than the above. Why? Because travellers come to Singapore for the food alone and there are almost 5,500 restaurants to choose from.

Here you can eat in anything from Michelin-star restaurants (Singapore has 52!) to street food in numerous markets dotted all over the country. Spoilt for choice is an understatement but must-eat dishes include Hainanese chicken rice, Chili Crab, Laksa, Fish Head Curry, Satay, Char kuay teow, Hokkien prawn mee…

Take it from us, Singapore is one of the all-time foodie destinations in the world. So, if you’re planning on going for the cuisine, do your research and build up an appetite before you set off.

There are so many things to do in Singapore that the above barely scratches the surface. And this is what makes Singapore a must-visit destination because it’s so versatile.

Whether you’re in for a few days or a few weeks, Singapore has something to suit your specific requirements. Solo travellers, couples, friends and families are all welcome here, and you’re free to indulge in unadulterated luxury or enjoy your vacation on a budget.

However you do it you’ll cherish the memories of your trip for a lifetime. Or maybe just until you visit this wonderful country next time. Zaìjiàn!
