Have I penned it a little late?May be, but to pen down my thoughts on this beautiful island, visited last year(August, 2018) was into my scheme of things. A lot of travelers, backpackers and visitors have shared their experience already about the scenic beauty, but my four day experience in the city was mainly into cultural diversity, delicious food and easy to avail public transport the city has. Let's get started...
The Plan?
I stayed here for four days and the itinerary is shared below:
Day 1: Orchard road, Little India, colonial district
Day 2: Sentosa Island & Gardens by the Bay
Day 3: Universal Studio, The Quays & the Marina Bay
Day4: Mustafa Centre, Buggis Street Market & China town Street Market
Estimated days are around 4-5 days to make it less hectic and cover the entire city, especially the night life.
If I have missed on anything, please comment on the section.
The Arrival: Amazing experience
I boarded an Ahmedabad-Singapore Boeing 777 carrier with the amazing Singapore Airlines and should i tell you not, the airline makes you feel at home. Though mine was economy class, but the hospitality provided by the cabin crew or the ground staff at the time of check in was class apart, everybody did something out of the way to stand out and make the journey comfortable. After i reached Singapore Changi Airport, the first and foremost thing that struck was to travel from airport to outer city, now that's one of the many challenges faced,if you are a budget traveler. Singapore is one of the expensive places in the Southeast Asia, with 1SGD approx. 51 INR, getting affordable options to commute is one of the things in the mind. I took a taxi to my hotel, other options are mentioned below;
Firstly, if you are planning to travel a lot in the city and are here for 4 days or more than ez-ink smart card is an affordable option, it will costs you around 10-12 SGD e.g. if the card costs 10SGD than 5SGD is the cost of the card and the other 5 is the stored value to spend. The card can be arranged from any 7-Eleven store or at an MRT station(Mass Rapid Transit), another affordable option to travel. There are also bus shuttle services which can be booked online, charges depending on the route of travel (usually between 6-12 SGD). The taxi is the fastest and most comfortable option, but it comes with the heavy price as well, they also have the surcharge at peak hours and midnight.
Hotels and staying options
If you want to stay at the heart of Singapore, then The Quays or the Marina Bay area is the perfect place. Even if you are not staying in, The Quays and the Marina Bay have its own charm and the night life is a treat to the eyes. Please comment if I have missed any other places; the budget stays start from Geylang area to Little India and Chinatown.
Geylang is also located in between Airport and City Center(the Quay and Marina Bay area) and is served amazing food. You can get Chinese, Indian, Malay cuisines at affordable price tags.
I am sharing few pictures of me trying to explore the city during my stay.
Overall, I had a great experience and what I like the most as a traveler is the diversity in their culture and people with different ethnicity living together. Singapore is one of the safest places I have been too, though i am sharing my experiences only. Singapore is a bit expensive to live but is worth to visit at least once to experience such diverse culture and hospitality.
