We took the overnight flight to Bali, with a 3 hour layover at Changi Airport. We could have hung around and explored the airport if only we had a bigger layover so we headed for a quick breakfast and then to the departure. From Singapore, we took a 2 hour flight to Bali, with Gaurda Indonesia. We were about 20 people only on the flight (talk about going to a place on a not-so-peak-time).
Coming to the Bali Airport, 'Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport' is that, it's right at the beach. I did freak out because I thought for once the flight will be landing on water. Right to the point when I was about to panic, BOOM we landed! Sounds kiddish but yeah, it was a 'goosebump' moment for me.
Bali has visa on arrival for Indians. Collect you baggage and move to international passengers clearance area. All you have to do is submit a customs form (will be provided by staff before landing), after filling it with the necessary detail.
We stayed at ' The Grand Mirage Resort' (Nusa Dua). This is a huge property with a beautiful private beach, delicious food, brilliant service, a swim-up bar, and most importantly a very welcoming ambiance. They have seating (bean bags and beds) right at the beach for guests to unwind!! Also, our day began with a hearty and delicious breakfast at their sea facing restaurant. I'll give this hotel a 10/10.
I have to mention one thing about the service in Bali, people here are super interactive and are forever trying to make you feel comfortable in their land. They all love INDIA and SRK and Bollywood!!! Like they would actually say movie dialogues and sing movie songs. On our trip to Lembongan Island, one of the singers did sing "Tum pass aaye" for us. SWEET!
So for Day 1, we crashed! Got up at 11 PM, called in the traditional 'Nasi goreng' for dinner and crashed again.
Day 2 was relaxation!
Never witnessed a beach wedding, I got to do so at our hotel on Day 2 while we were proceeding for breakfast. Imagine walking down the isle, which faces a beach and having someone sing, 'Beautiful in white' - Made me want to get married again. WISH I COULD!
Post breakfast we hit the pool. Had some killer cocktails at the swim-up bar until noon.
After nice pool time, we proceeded for a sumptuous lunch by the beach at the hotel. Also, you got to try the Bintang beer when in Indonesia.
We had pre-booked a 4-hour long couple spa for the evening at Galuh Spa, Kuta. This was a relaxing one after tiring months of wedding planning and the wedding of course.
After our spa session, we were dropped back to our hotel and we decided to have dinner at the hotel right opposite our hotel, known as 'Black tom's'.
Most of the restaurants in Bali will have a live music session every evening (and they sound super good!). 10/10 restaurants we went to were open-air ones (which is a fact with most of the restaurants there) and had a live music session. I'm a foodie and I was in 'awe' of their food! From steak to fish to veggies, I have no complaints with our choice!
Our tour guide suggested we try the sea walker, which is like a thing in Bali. We were skeptical but I'm glad we did it anyway. This was very close to Nusa Dua. We had opted to photos too so we got a really cool picture of us walking on the sea bed.
There is something special about adventure sports in crystal clear waters! For non-swimmers like us, dive walking and feeding the fishes (about 20-25 feet under the sea) was an accomplishment. Also, they make couples do a typical ❤️sign.
Study Balinese history and explore the unique Bali Architecture at Bali museum. The entire museum architecture is made of black lava rock. Do go till the top via a flight of spiral stairs to have a top view of the beautiful city! I did not click a picture of the view as it won't do any justice even if I did.

Visit the Art Market and pick up some cool Bali souvenirs for your family/friends back home. There is something for everyone!
After shopping, we proceeded to the famous Bali coffee plantation called the Taman Ayu, which rears Mongoose/Civet for some obvious reasons. The plantation ends in an open lounge where guests are given tea and coffee tasters. You like it, you can buy it! The Lemongrass and Rosella Tea were my favourites!
A simple way to explain how the famous "Luwak Coffee" is made: Mongoose eats coffee beans - it poops - the poop is then processed to create the famous coffee - Luwak copi!
After the day tour, we wanted to explore the nightlife of Bali. So we got ready and proceeded to Legian Street, Kuta. (Pronunciation: Leg-e-yan Street)
This street is the pub street in Bali! Go club hopping, do some street shopping, soothe your hunger pangs and dance the night away! Explore this street to get the hippie feels! Never did I think that the nightlife in Bali would beat the one in Goa! The street will remind you of our very own "Tito's Lane".
MUST GO: Sky Garden! Your cover charge will include one drink. This place has an array of pubs inside. Every level is a new pub! Do keep hopping around here because it's effin brilliant!!!
Day 4 was again for relaxing by the beach and being lazy in our room.
The view was great so we did not mind.
Around 4ish we left for Bluepoint beach / Uluwatu beach which happens to be a surfers paradise and a treat to the eyes. You will have to climb down a multitude of stairs, but mark my words, it is A SIGHT TO BEHOLD!
Beware of the Monkeys though.
View sunset at this cliff-side Uluwatu temple. Anyone wearing a short dress will be asked to wear a sarong.
Enjoy the Kecak Fire Dance by natives at the cliff-top amphitheater. As the sun sets over the temple, the men dressed in a black/red/white sarong, chant as if in a trance, during the whole performance. The troupe of around 75 male dancers enter the center with extended arms and shaking hands up in the air while chanting a fast-paced, 'Chak!' (choruses repetitively). They depict five episodes from the Ramayana (Hanuman being the main protagonist).
The day ended with a brilliant dinner at Mama's restaurant in Legian street. Look at the caramel... <3
Day 5 was kept for Island tour.
There are about 7 islands around Bali. We happen to book a day cruise to visit one of them, known as The Lembongan Island.
It is an hours journey from Bali port. If you have motion sickness, you better sit with the water-sickness bag that will be provided on board. Upon arrival at Lembongan, the cruise is docked away from the shore next to a set-up which is like a cool deck in the middle of the sea. The deck had a water slide where you can go drop into the sea, many kinds of water sports activities like banana boat ride, kayaking, scuba, etc, etc, etc. A day cruise has a 3-hour water sports, breakfast, lunch & snacks inclusive in the package. Alcohol is available, obviously! Basically, this was a water-themed park in the middle of the sea.
Post lunch we were transported to Lembongan beach by a small boat. We were asked to either explore the island in 3 hours or chill by the infinity pool at Coconut Resort. We chose the latter!
We were transported back to the cruise and then back to Bali port. We were at our hotel by 5 pm. After this, we wanted to do some shopping and have dinner so we hit legian street again. This time we chose a cozy restaurant for a candle light dinner. If you don't want to go to a loud pub or lounge, Kuta has many restaurants too.
We had to get back by 12ish so we could pack for our morning flight back home.
For travel in and around, we chose taxis which cost us roughly 1,000 bucks per travel. We befriended a local guy who helped us get cheap taxis with good drivers.
The city of Bali is kinda like Mumbai, but with cleaner roads, no skyscrapers, nice people (disciplined & crazy) and more greens! You will find every single bike/scooty rider and the pillion rider with a helmet (which is a rare sight in Mumbai).
As cheesy as it sounds, but words cannot express how beautiful this place is. The people, the location, the food, the atmosphere, the VIBES - all are so good and you just don't feel like saying goodbye. It is a tropical country so rest assured you're getting tanned (level 1000), and I didn't regret it one bit!
NOTE: 5 days are so not enough to explore this place.
Must-knows before taking off for Bali:
Carry currency in Dollars (if you fall short on them, they've got ATMs). Pack a sunscreen of the highest SPF Carry as fewer clothes as possible (as short as possible also). Beware of people who try to sell you drugs. Bargain when it comes to street shopping or while dealing with any agency/person there for any activity.
Bali is indeed a paradise, a land of good vibes!
