Jewel Changi Airport Reviews

The lion city was my first international visit. I had booked my flight three months in advance hence got a great deal with Indigo. Singapore is overall an expensive country if you are travelling from India and utterly expensive from stay point of view. I landed at Changi Airport at 12:30 PM SST (Singapore Standard Time). The airport itself was marvelous and I had decided to explore it on my last day. Immigration was quick though there was a huge crowd and I cleared it in fifteen minutes which was a surprise as I had to wait for approx. 2 hours in queue to clear immigration at Mumbai airport. Keep your return ticket handy as they may ask you. The first and foremost thing after collecting my luggage was to find a city map and it was abundantly available at all the kiosk. Highly advisable to spend some time studying the map especially their MRT (metro) routes. I then headed towards their MRT station at Changi airport to travel to the hostel I had booked on Outram Road. Other option is of course private taxi. Changi airport also has a shuttle service (ticketing counter is right next to exit) which will drop you right outside your hotel and charge you roughly four-five times more as compared to MRT (MRT Tickets was for SGD 2.50). You just need to select your hotel on their system (yes, they have listed all the hotels/hostels, etc.) and no. of people and swipe your card- it’s a self-service kiosk, though they have a staff who will guide you in case you need. The country is excessively technology dependent so be prepared to do everything on your own. I had to ask for help after I failed to get tickets on my own.
Months of excitement, weeks of planning and hours of anticipation had all led me to this place here and the moment I set foot on Changi Airport, I was convinced that this was going to be one hell of a journey ! On my train to Little India, I couldn't help but admire this "Lion Country" and its amazing views. A 2-min walk from the station and I was welcomed by the friendly staff at my hotel. Even though I was tired, the desire to explore this city wouldn't let me stay in the room. So I just decided to take a walk around and try some real spicy Indian food for dinner. The moment I set afoot, I was greeted by a view like this. The street was alive with vibrant colors, sounds and delicious aromas. There were vendors clamoring in every corner offering colourful Indian garments, sweets, flowers and jewellery. It had northern and southern Indian cuisines and similar mouth-watering street delicacies making it very hard to choose amongst the wide variety of palates that it offered. In the end, I choose the North-Indian Chicken Biryani for dinner and promised to try the South-Indian food for breakfast the next day at Sarvana Bhavan. Although the street was clattering continuously, it offered you a certain sense of belongingness making you feel right at home. Day 2 : 9 a.m
Changi Airport and Srilankan Airlines - So we landed to the world's best airport and felt like we have landed to some sci-fi city! What a transformation from moderate Colombo Airport to Changi Airport! Since we had same airlines and long transit hours from Mumbai to Colombo to Singapore, we had requested that we receive our baggages directly at Singapore. Upon reaching Changi, we started hunting our baggages and they nowhere to be found. We checked with lost and found department too but that was not much help. After speaking to few officers, we were told to check the belt where our airline baggages were rolling and there we saw it lying on the ground, unattended, mishandled and damaged near the belt (it was lying there since 2 days and nobody bothered to move it!). We never expected Srilankan Airlines would be so irresponsible and careless! After picking up our bags, we found one of the bags handle broken and my bag's key code was tempered which didn't let me open the bag until we had to break the key lock to open it (ufff!). Not a good experience on Changi!. Moving on to further we had to go North Point mall from the Airport.
A group of few friends decides to hop on to 2 countries and travel together! We already had a friend living in Malaysia and after loads of planning and booking (only 20 days ahead of the trip!), we started off to the new country and expedition!. My ticket was booked just a week before the travel date. My Malaysian visa was received on same date of travel whereas Singapore eVisa was issued immediately. We tried booking through Singapore Airlines but tickets were costing us bomb as it was short period of booking. Finally we settled on SriLankan Airlines with long transit hours so we can have a day in Colombo and nearby. We deliberately booked our tickets with long transit hours and it proved to be wise decision. So on 14th early morning we left for Colombo. We had an entire day in Colombo. Then we reached Singapore on 15th night and on 16th night we were in Singapore and in Malaysia. So we had 4 nights in 4 different countries! (India, Srilanka, Singapore and Malaysia!). What and how we did in Srilanka is mentioned in another post.
Changi Airport in Singapore is a great airport with a butterfly garden, massage chairs and a huge shopping complex. But if you don’t want to do any of those, or don’t want to be stuck inside, there is good news! If you have a layover of more than five and a half hours and less than 24 hours at Changi Airport, they offer two types of tour - the city sights tour and the heritage tour. Both are two and a half hour tours with the first one starting at 9am and the last one at 6.30pm. The city lights tour hits the usual spots such as the Singapore Flyer and Merlion Park. On the heritage tour you are taken to different neighbourhoods in the city such as Little India and Kampong Glam. You can find out more here. How to do it:Skip immigration and head to Transfer Lounge F in Terminal 2 or Transfer Lounge A in Terminal 3. There are two city sights and four heritage tours per day. Both run on a first come, first serve basis.
