Gangtok,the capital of Sikkim is one of the charming and enchanting places in Eastern India and can be reached by travelling 6 hrs from NJP..The MIghty Kanchenjunga and Worlds 3rd Highest peak is visible from here.One should plan his stay at Gangtok as there are lot of attractions in the city which includes the city mall,Flower Garden,etc.
Lachung is a town at North East Sikkim and can be reached from Gangtok at a motorable distance of 10 hrs.Most of the inhabitants at Lahung are of Lepcha descent.This town remains closed in winters due to heavy snowfall..The best time to visit this place is Mar-April.The Rhodendron valley Trek also starts from Lachung which has the famous Monastery.There is a permit required to visit this place and one can attain it from Gangtok itself.The road to Lachung from Gangtok is one of the toughest roads in the world and involves passing huge rocks,waterfalls in the mid way.Accomodation is available at a cheap rate for tourists which includes the car charges,hotel stay and food.It is advisable to stay atleast 2 nights at Lachung to see the grandeur of the Eastern Himalayas .
Yumthang popularly known as the Valley Of Flowers in the East is a grazing pasture surrounded by Himalayan mountains.This Valley has various types of Rhodendrons and a tributary of the river Teesta flows past the valley.There is a forest rest house at Yumthang and is the only source of accommodation in this Valley.Reservations in this rest house should be made prior to arrival at this valley.The site offers enchanting views of the Mighty Himalayas and all flower lovers can see the Sikkim Blushwort flower here.The entire weather during Mar-Apr is very soothing and pleasant and offers spectacular and hypnotizing views of Mother Nature which can leave any traveller blind folded.
