Hello fellow travelers,
If you have read Part 1 of my post , then I believe you have finalized the best vehicle & hotel for your Sikkim trip. Let's commence with the trip then.
Tip 4: Challenges of the North
For me personally, the best part of Sikkim is the North. It depicts the actual Sikkim which most of us visualize while planning our Sikkim trip, places like Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley and Zero Point. But as we all know, “The best things in life don't come easy". With extreme cold , high altitudes & mountainous roads , North will be the most challenging part of your travel.
To overcome these hardships, one most important thing you can do is to book a good hotel in North. Do adequate research as to which hotel provides heaters, hot water & good food , as these basic things become a luxury in the North. Never ever compromise on the Hotel.
Quick Suggestion : Etho Metho in Lachung
The next thing , which goes without saying is clothes, clothes & more warm clothes. The more you clothe yourself , the better. You don't want to click pics were you are constantly shivering due to cold.
Another thing which I would strongly advice is not to rush during your North travel. Book a hotel for a minimum of two nights at Lachung and one night at Lachen, so that you get proper rest & you are fresh in the morning to explore the North, rather than just rushing from one spot to the other. Never compromise on proper rest since the cold & high altitudes takes a toll on your body.
Tip 5: Man-made South
South Sikkim is famous for it's two man-made marvels; The CharDham in Namchi & The Buddha Park in Ravangla.
Both are marvelous structures of architecture, just visit & enjoy, no tips & tricks of travel required for these places. However, make sure to visit both these places on separate days. To enjoy the beauty of both these places , the more time you have the better it will be. So plan your trip accordingly , allotting maximum possible time to both these locations.
Apart from these, I do recommend visiting the Rabdentse Ruins & Sky walk(Pelling) which many of us skip during our Sikkim tour. But if you have time, do visit these locations of West Sikkim.
Tip 5: Gangtok day trips
For many of the travelers, Sikkim is just 2-3 day trip to Gangtok. If you are one of those travelers, you can surely go for the one-day sight seeing trip in Gangtok. But for the rest of us, who have planned to travel all the four corners of Sikkim, I would certainly say a big NO to include any one-day sight seeing trips except the Tsomgo lake trip offcourse. Other than that, the places they will take you during the day trip are all jam packed with locals as well as tourists & you will definitely not enjoy them if you have already seen the North or are planning to.
So, quick suggestion is just to skip it as you will not miss anything great.
