Travelling is like a drug, you just need to taste once and you'll never realize when you've became an addict. My recent trip to Sikkim made me realize how much I needed the break from all chaos, it was my best escape. Well the escape turned out to be adventurous when we got stuck in Lachung and witnessed rescue mission by our Army. Peek into my 5 day trip which we planned during Christmas before saying a goodbye to the year full of lockdowns.
Day 1
Peep into Gangtok
We reached Gangtok City on 24th eve and rested that day to prepare ourselves for next day. In actual plan, we were suppose to visit Tshomo Lake and Nathula Pass but due to heavy snowfall the plan got cancelled so we opted for exploring city in and out. We visited Ganeshtok-a hill top temple, Flower museum, Kanchenjunga Viewpoint, Historical Monastery and M.G. Road.
Day 2 & Day 3
Lachen - Undiscovered corners
Next day we reached Lachen and witnessed first snowfall of the year. Cold wind of -7 degree and cotton like white flakes turned our tiredness and trouble into joy. We embarked our journey to Gurudongmar Lake while enjoying Singhik View point, Amitabh Waterfall and Naga Water Falls.
Day 4
Lachung - A small wonder
Visiting Lachung was ice on the cake for our trip. A small village located in between mountains and surrounded by Teesta River has been the most beautiful place I ever visited. Yumthang Valley covered itself under white sheet of snow close tot he most purest form of itself. When we saw Katau point - closest to our army base all we felt was gratitude towards our Army men who are living there away from family with limited basic amenities and yet holds strong spirit to serve their nation. We were stuck in Lachung due to heavy snowfall, with no electricity and limited network access, thanks to locals they provided shelter and arranged food for close to thousands tourist and salute to Indian Army who came to our rescue and finally we returned to Gangtok after 2 days.
Finally on Day 6 we ended our trip and boarded flight to Pune coming back to the base with all the memories intact in our mind and eyes for forever....
