Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim is one of the most popular tourist destination in North-East India. Gangtok has beautiful waterfalls, serene monasteries, stunning viewpoints and not to forget the mouth-watering momos.

I visited Gangtok during the early monsoon month, most people would not advise you to visit a hill station during monsoons but I think rain just adds to the beauty. The smell of mud and the moist air, the raindrops on lush green plants will touch your soul.

I had an early morning flight from Calcutta to Bagdogra. After which I took a shared taxi to Gangtok. I stayed in a Hotel called Nettle and Fern which was few mins away from M.G. Marg which is the main market area of Gangtok.

Top Places to visit in Gangtok :

Ban Jhakri falls : Ban Jhakri means ‘Jungle Priest’ or in some definition ‘Jungle Magician’. This fall has an interesting story attached to its origin. This waterfall is a popular picnic spot and remains little crowded but one cannot miss this waterfall as it is absolutely amazing.

Gangtok is a very safe place for both solo women travelers and backpackers. The people here are warm and welcoming, the climate is amazing, the local food is delicious. I have been to Gangtok twice and it still continues to remain one of my favorite hill station in India. A walk across the bustling roads in MG Marg, enjoying the evening sky with a plate of momos and chai, is something that you gotta do when in Gangtok.
