Explore holy place Chungthang At elevation of 1790 meters

First Guru of Sikhism Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is not only related to Sikh religion, infact Shri Guru Nanak Dev is worshipped as Guru of Hindhu and Peer of Muslim.
To save the entire world from crime and Give message of God Guru Nanak Dev Ji did 4 journeys in four directions which are popularly known as 'Udasian'.
During one of these journeys, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed North East India like sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh etc.
In North Sikkim Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed Chungthang and also Gurudongmar lake.
Chungthang is a holy place near lachung in North Sikkim.

In sikkim Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is famous as Guru Padmasambhava or Nanak Lama. In Buddhism Lama means spiritual leader or teacher.
Chungthang is a holy place. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji declared this place as ' Changi Tha' that means ' Beautiful Place'.
When Shri Guru Nanak Dev visited Chungthang, Chungthang place suffered from scarcity of food. At that time Chungthang is a Barron area. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji blessed this place while coming back from Tibet during 4th udasi or yatra around 1516. People of chungthang requested Guru ji to do something as there is no food to eat. There were shortage of food badly in chungthang. Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave their blessings by throwing hand full of paddy on that place and blessed there will be cultivation of paddy. Everyone got surprised, as Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave blessings of cultivation in Barron area.
After that Chungthang is a only place in surrounding area of sikkim where cultivation of paddy is possible.
Also chungthang has a big rock having footprints and hand prints of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. This holy rock is a source of mineral water. Water coming from this rock continuously.
There is a Gurudwara Sahib named Nanak Lama where you can see holy rock , also you can get accomodation ofcourse langer.
We visited this place 2 times while going to lachung and coming back from yumthang.
Gurudwara sahib members gave us warm treatment. We took holy lake Gurudongmar lake water which is available at chungthang .

About chungthang, it is located at intersection of two rivers lachung and lachen. Both these are tributaries of teesta.
Chungthang is a pathway to both towns lachung and lachen.
At 9 kilometres from chungthang there is a beautiful tall waterfall named bhewma waterfall or Amitabh Bachchan waterfall.
It seems good half while going to yumthang valley and zero point.
Also it is good halt while going to Gurudongmar lake.
Both are beautiful places.

How to reach
Chungthang is at elevation of 1790 meters or 5870 feets.
You reach chungthang via road from Gangtok.
From Gangtok chungthang is at distance of 97 kilometres.
From lachung chungthang is at distance of 23 kilometres.
