When was the last time that you enjoyed the mild chill of the winter before it even started? Wait, let me guess, it should be in some of the most sort after hill stations in India. Yes, I am talking about my trip to Darjeeling-Gangtok. Though Darjeeling has become more of a tourist spot, some of its charm is still left in the toy train and ofcourse the view it takes you through.
So let me jump into the details of how we reached Darjeeling. After reaching Bagdogra Airport, we took a cab to Darjeeling which is 2-3 hours away. You should look at the view while passing through the hair-pin bends.
That night we called it a day, as it was kinda travelling day. Reaching the Bagdogra Airport from Delhi and then a cab to Darjeeling..uff.
So, the next day, we started off with the joy ride of UNESCO Heritage Toy Train of Darjeeling. Thankfully, the weather that day was so pleasing and calm. We were already enjoying the vibes over there.
The ride in the toy train cheered up the child inside me, having the glimpse of the scenic beauty through the ride in the city.
The next day, we planned the next list of visits namely Sunrise at the Tiger Hill, Darjeeling Peace Pagoda and that's it I guess :p
Let me tell you something about this Tiger Hill ViewPoint, Don't expect less crowd over there, the proof for Darjeeling becoming more of a tourist destination. If you are nauseous of crowds, then you would be definitely not enjoying this place as you should. Okay, enough of disclaimers now.
I will share some awesome pictures of the Kanchenjunga range visible from the sun's rays.
After this, we headed to Gangtok which was again 4-5 hours away. But, unexpectedly, it was raining heavily and hence our journey took more time. Nevertheless, the journey is always beautiful than the destination. We stopped for a lunch break and I am gonna share a picture, seeing which your heart will melt for it and of course jealousy.
So, after reaching Gangtok, we called it a day again and there is an awesome cafe named Cafe Live and Loud, we went for dinner there. You should listen to the live music by a local band over there. Awesome vibes and a must visit cafe in Gangtok.
Our first plan to do in Gangtok was to visit the Zuluk valley which was one of the oldest routes for trading from India to nearby countries and also a part of "The Silk Route". Thanks to the unfortunate weather and landslides, our plan shifted to Gangtok hopping.
The places we went to that day were: A botanical garden, Hanuman Tok, Bakthang Waterfalls and Ranka Monastery.
So let me share the pics of that day:
So that was it about our go-to places from both Darjeeling and Gangtok.
Of course, the walk in MG Marg, Gangtok is one to be not missed.
There are many more places left to be explored, like I said, Zuluk Valley, Rumtek Monastery. There is a saying goes, there is time for everything and yes you should believe in your passion. Thankfully, I found my passion in exploring new places and getting lost in nature's beauty.
This was it about the details of the trip. Regarding the transportation, in both places, Darjeeling and Gangtok, visit a nearby cab services place and you can negotiate with them regarding the pricing and stuff. And it's pretty safe to travel in any part of North-East just as a heads-up. Happy Travelling. Happy Exploring. And yes, travel responsibly, just keep in mind of the places you visit, how clean they maintain, just respect that fact and don't litter while you travel to such places. I guess you can start contributing to a cleaner environment in this way by traveling responsibly.
