Seville, a city full of Moorish architecture, is one of my favorite cities in Spain. It is a city full of historical monuments and a place where you can experience the Spanish culture at its best.
I visited Seville in 2019 during my 15-day long road trip across Spain. I stayed in Seville for three days. Before Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara, I was unaware of this beautiful city. Just like any other European city, it is best to live in the old town and so I did the same. I booked an Airbnb, which was just 10 minutes away from the Seville Cathedral and the majestic Alcazar.
The owners of the homestay were friendly and helpful and helped me plan my first evening in Sevilla.
The top on my bucket list in Seville was to skydive, which i did on the last day. On day 1 and 2, I tried my best to soak in the history of this beautiful city. The lanes of old town Santa Cruz are always buzzing with tourists and guides. It is adorned with cozy cafes and bars.
If you have a day or two to explore the city, Seville Cathedral, The Alcazar, Plaza De Espana and a Flamenco show should be on the top of your list.
So, my Day 1 began a little late and I set out to see the Cathedral, which is a UNESCO world heritage site and 4th largest church in the world. After being awestruck by the architecture of the church and full view of the city from top of the cathedral, I went for lunch with my host.
Soon after, I decided to go to The Alcazar. Being a Game of Thrones fan, it was a must visit for me. For the unversed, few episodes of the famous HBO drama were shot here. The palace was about to close and I was lucky enough to get a ticket on time. The palace has beautiful gardens, a courtyard and artifacts and is known for its famous tile designs. It took me around 1.5 hour to see the whole palace. Tired and hungry, I went back to my Airbnb.
In the evening, I visited Setas de Sevilla (Mushrooms of Seville). Itis a wooden structure in the old quarter of Seville. German architect Jürgen Mayer is the designer of this giant mushroom structure, and it gives an amazing view of the Seville skyline and the Cathedral. The day ended with amazing Indian food and a walk in the lanes of Santa Cruz.
I started my second day very early and decided to visit the aquarium and Plaza de Espana. The Plaza de Espana is situated in the Parque Maria Luisa Park. It is semicircular in shape, and you can see street performers in every nook and corner in the plaza.
In the evening, after watching a flamenco show, I strolled in the lanes of old town, bought some souvenirs and Spanish sweets. I sat in a cafe overlooking the cathedral and soaked in the flavors of the old town.
I called it an early night as I had to reach Skydive Spain at 8 in the morning. You can read about my skydiving experience here.
A part of me wanted to stay a little longer but it would have meant changing rest of my trip. I wish to go back to Seville and learn more about the culture and people.
PS: Don't forget to sit by the beautiful Guadalquivir River, which is the second-longest river with its entire length in Spain.
