Fans of Korean dramas especially Heartstrings by Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye, and Personal Taste by Lee Min-Ho and Son Ye-Jin were well-known for the filming locations of the Korean dramas in Bukchon Hanok Village! Bukchon Hanok Village is home to hundreds of traditional houses, called Hanok, since the Joseon Dynasty. As an avid fan of Korean dramas, I was so much interested in Korean culture and the lifestyle. So as for me, visiting this Hanok village was a dream come true moment.
The old-time residential village lies in a hilly neighborhood north of Choenggyecheon Stream and between the two royal palaces, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace.
Some houses hold art displays that are free to view while others collect entrance fees. We would recommend dropping by the tourist info office for a map guide before you start exploring. It’s easier to explore the place with a map, that’s what we did. One is along the main road which is 500m south of or before the entry roads to the village. The other is about 300 m up across the road opposite the 1st office. Several cafes serve as rest stops and to drink or eat after the long routes.
Great for a leisurely walk but make sure to wear comfortable shoes as it’s a bit walk though. Photographers will enjoy the walk with the beautiful architecture. So Nithin liked it there as he took as many pictures of the village area and the houses. It’s worth spending an hour in the area to see the traditional Korean houses. We will be surprised to see those old houses still as new in the middle of Seoul city. Although there are restaurants, cafes, art galleries, museums, it is still a residential area and many signs are requesting to refrain from speaking loud or making noises. As we walked, we bought some yummy ice creams even though I have a sore throat because of the cool climate.
How to get there?
Take Subway Line 3 to Anguk Station (Exit 2).
After exiting, continue straight for about 300 meters.
