Ranthambore National Park situated in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan is one of the famous tourist spot in India. It presents best amalgamation of history and nature. Ranthambore formidable fort is situated inside the park was built in the 10 th century and coveted by many rulers due to its strategic position between north and central India.
Ranthambore is situated between the Vindhya Plateau and Aravali Hills. The geographical area has been characterized as rocky plains and stiff cliffs. The park is bestowed with diverse range of flora and fauna including healthy population of Royal Bengal Tigers.
Location of the Park
Located in India's desert state of Rajasthan; Ranthambore is 450 kilometers Southwest of Delhi and approximately at a distance of 185 kilometers from Pink City Jaipur.
How to Reach There?
The nearest airport is Jaipur. It takes four hours of travelling time via surface from Jaipur. Sawai Madhopur is the closest railway station, 11 Kilometers from the park. Ranthambore is easily accessible by train and flight from Jaipur Delhi and Agra.
Best time to visit RanthamboreNational Park
The month of March through June is the best time to visit Ranthambore National Park when most animals come out in search of water. However, winter season is considered an ideal time to explore the wilderness of the park. The Ranthambore Music Festival is organized every year in the months of December.
Ranthambore National Park Safari Zones
The Ranthambore Park has 10 safari zones. Zone numbers 1-5 are in the core area while rests 6-10 are in the surrounding buffer area. Tiger sightings in both areas are more or less same. Sighting has improves a lot in recent years as the tiger population has increased. In the current year, zone 6 has been excellent for animal sightings. Zone number 1 to 5 is considered good for sightings.
Sherpur village is the entry gate for the zone number 1 to 5 while zone numbers 6 to 10 are accessed through gates on the main road south of Sawai Madhopur.
Park Opening Times
The park is open from morning till evening. Jeep and Canter Safari are conducted in two shifts for two and half hours - morning as well as in evening.
