This is the third photo story in the series where I am talking about Mendocino, California. Past two photo stories can be enjoyed here and here. Today we are going to talk about the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse State Park.
A coastline without lighthouse is incomplete and Mendocino, my favorite beach town, can never have anything incomplete. With a beautiful lighthouse standing tight between Point Arena and Cape Mendocino, the Point Cabrillo State Park offers museum and stay too.
Built after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to help warn ships carrying lumber to the city away from the coastal shoals, the Point Cabrillo lighthouse is one of the "must not miss" place. This lighthouse is one of the few still having its original lens, as they are damaged, they are being replaced with LED's.
From parking, the paved road leading to light house is scenic and serene due to absence of commercialization. Enjoying coastal breeze and chirps of birds around with colorful flowers everywhere is a treat to eye. This continues for half a mile and I promise, you will not complain about the walk.
And there is the light house.....standing still, preserving history and helping present.
The lighthouse area is nice and open, right on the coast, with some other buildings with fabulous red roofs to see (you can even rent the homes). I would like to go back and do that sometime as it would be an experience in itself.
Want to accompany on my next visit to Mendocino? We will have another photo story, for sure.
