My recent trip to Sacramento was for business, and overall the city was great and refreshing compared to my home city of Detroit, MI.
Sacramento has plenty to offer, so during my free time I took advantage of some local sites, food and even made a couple of friends at the bar across the street from my hotel.
Cost breakdown:
- Airfare: $150 round trip
- Hotel: $570
- Food: $130
- Car rental: $60 ($20/day)
- Extras $45
Day 1
I checked in to the "Residence Inn by Marriott" on 15th St. around 6 PM on Sunday. My total rate for 3 nights here was about $510 ($170 a night).
The room was clean and I had no complaints! It was a fairly average 3-star hotel, nothing fancy but still nice. They did have free breakfast, so that was nice.
I was pretty hungry so I walked across the street to a cool Irish Pub - "de Vere's Irish Pub." I actually really enjoyed the food, it was delicious. I got the "Granny's Shepherd's Pie" for $12. I also had a few pints. It was a great spot, and I actually came back here on the following 2 nights. I made some new friends and had a great time.
I finished the day by soaking in the hot tub back at my hotel.
Day 2
After finishing my work responsibilities, I wanted to go for a run and realized I left my workout clothes at home.
Go figures.
So I made a "quick trip" to Walmart. Ended up grabbing some nice Russell Athletic running shorts and a sweatshirt to jog in, as I noticed it was getting chilly when the sun sets. Overall I paid about $18.50 for the sweatshirt and $15 for the shorts.
I went on a run and wound up around the Sacramento River, it was refreshing.
I ended up going back to de Vere's when I got back to the hotel.
Day 3
I'll admit, I like beer. So after work, I went to Firestone Public House, had a great Sculpin IPA and a Lobster pizza, and then went back to de Vere's for a stout (or two).
I then went back to the hot tub at the hotel before hitting the hay.
Day 4
The only thing I did this day was travel to the airport.
Conclusion
I would have liked to have more time to explore Sacramento, but overall I had a good experience for my business trip and wouldn't mind staying in Downtown Sacramento again.
