About The Place
We chose Rovaniemi for our Christmas vacation. It is in Finland. This is famous for northern lights, snowmobiling, husky safaris, reindeer ride and the Santa Village. It is 942 km from Sweden. The place is very cold (much colder than Stockholm).
How to Reach
From Stockholm one can go by flight and one can also go by the car. We chose the easiest option, to go to Rovaniemi by flight.
Things to Do
Many activities like snowmobiling on the frozen river, husky ride through the forest, riding the sleigh on a reindeer and watching the northern lights, and off course, meeting the real Santa Claus in the Santa Village.
Where we stayed in
We stayed in Sky Ounasvaara in Rovaniemi. The forests are beside the hotel. In bottom floor there are reindeer horn displays. Another hotel we stayed there in Rovaniemi is Glass resort. It is looking like an igloo.
Food
The best food we had included Reindeer soup, elk meat, vegan sausage, croissant, potato and salmon soup, blueberry pie, grouse meat. These foods are very ethnic and tremendous.
My experience
On Day 1, we flew from Stockholm and went to Rovaniemi with a stopover in Helsinki by plane. We took a taxi to the sky Ounasvaara hotel. We had dinner in the restaurant in Finland and had potatoes, reindeer meat sausages, beetroot salad and breads with a coffee.
The next day we went to the office to guide the safari to go to Santa Village. I went with one partner named Milla by the snowmobile. While riding the snowmobile my hands and legs became numb and I kept moving fingers and toes to keep them warm. We went to the reindeer park to see some reindeers with a sleigh, cottages, and met a farmer. I rode the reindeer sleigh with my mother and sang Jingle bells. We had a raspberry tea and I heat the cold hands and legs and went inside the cottage. We went to Santa village by the bus after having coffee inside the cottage. We had salmon soup and bread for lunch. We met elves while waiting to meet Santa. I felt tremendous about the experience of meeting the real Santa Claus. I wished him Happy New Year and spoke with him for quite a long time. I went to the post office to write the letter to my mentor Aurelie about the new year vacation. I posted the letter to be sent to my school. I went back to hotel with my parents to look for the aurora borealis in the terrace. The green indigo light was fun.
The third day in Finland we went on one more trip to the husky safari centre. I went with one more partner and held the rope and the dogs went faster. I patted the dogs after I rode the husky sleigh. In the afternoon, we went to the glass resort. It had two floors and looks like an igloo. We had a selfie next to the markets of Santa village. We went with Isabelle, our guide to the office and were driven to the cottage for the northern light safari. We lit up the fire and warmed up the hands and legs. We fried the vegan sausages with my daddy and ate it. It felt warm in the cold night. We saw the northern lights. The aurora is a polar light. I went outside the cottage and commanded the snowmobile riders to jet set and go. We went back to the hotel and ate reindeer soup, bread, elk meat and rice.
On the final day we went to the restaurant and had breakfast like salad, croissant and reindeer omelette, sitting inside the glass hotel. I had a sauna before we left the igloo. We took the flight back to Stockholm.
Summary
I will recommend everyone to go to Rovaniemi. It is a wonderful place. I enjoyed it…
