Weekend in Dehradun

Dehradun is a prominent city located in North India, which also serves as the capital of Uttarakhand. The city is one of the most famous tourist destinations in India, owing to its wonderful attractions and proximity to other tourist destinations. Indian Military Academy

An offbeat destination among tourists, the Indian Military Academy or IMA is one of the crown jewels of Dehradun. Forest Research Institute

Also located around 8 km from the main city, Forest Research Institute is another destination which is not frequented by many tourists. The Forest Research Institute was established in 1906, as the Imperial FRI- it still retains the magnificent colonial architecture. The main attraction of this place is the main building, which was recently declared a national heritage site and was styled in Grecko-Roman by architect C G Blomfield in 1929.

The FRI has over 2000 acres of scenic and calm fields, with the trees planted in meticulous straight rows. Other attractions around include the Botanical Garden and the museums. The entry fee is low, at just Rs. 10 per head.

Sahastradhara

Sahastradhara literally means "thousand-fold spring", and the place is famous among the residents and tourists visiting Uttarakhand. The spring is located around 14 km from Dehradun, so getting a car on rent in Dehradun to get there would be a great idea.

Sahastradhara has a collection of water pools and water falls, where the water is known to have medicinal and therapeutic value. This is because the water drips from limestone stalactites, turning it into sulphur springs. Families can also take their children to Joyland Water Park, which is a theme park located close to the Sahastradhara.

Mussoorie

Mussoorie is also known as the "Queen of Hills", and for good reason, too. The hill station, located around 35 km from Dehradun is known for its tranquil atmosphere and breathtaking views.
