How to reach Rishikesh?
By Flight: the airport that is closest to Rishikesh is Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradhun which is 35km away from the city.
By Train: the railway station closest to Rishikesh is at Haridwar, which is 25 km away.
By Road: You can always self-drive to Rishikesh or take a bus from Delhi or Dehradhun.
Things to do in Rishikesh:
Laxman Jhula:
This is a suspension bridge over the Ganges River. It is a pedestrian bridge and motor bikes cross over it too. From the bridge you can get an extensive view of the river and of the city and the temples.
Ram Jhula:
This iron suspension bridge is older and bigger than Laxman Jhula. It is one of the conic landmarks of Rishikesh. The bridge is open for pedestrians and cyclists. You get a spectacular view of the city from the bridge.
Parmarth Niketan Ashram:
This is the biggest Ashram in Rishikesh with approx. 1000 rooms and is home to a 14 feet tall Shiva statue. This ashram conducts activities like yoga and meditation. Most pilgrims come to stay here during their visit.
The other ashrams with stay and yoga in Rishikesh are Sivananda Ashram, Swami dayananda Ashram, Sadhana Mandir Ashram, Kriya Yoga Ashram and many others. Rishikesh is called Yoga center of the world for this reason. There are many other ashrams and everywhere yoga is performed and taught.
Triveni ghat:
This is the biggest Ghat in the city alongside the River Ganga. You will find people perform their spiritual activities here. The famous Ganga Arti takes place at this Ghat and is a moment that shouldn’t be missed. People light diyas on leaves and let it float over the river. Huge bells ring and it is a wonderful sight. Coming here early in the morning is more peaceful. Taking a boat ride at dawn is a must. You will get to see the sunrise and the river in the most beautiful form.
Rishikesh River Rafting:
One more thing Rishikesh is popular for is rafting in the Ganges. There are options of rafting for 16km, 26 km and 35km. You can choose which one you want to take. Rafting is an amazing experience and you’ve got to try it once. The experts will take care of your safety even if you do not know swimming and hence you do not have to worry regarding safety. The minimum charge for rafting for one person is INR 1500.
Food and shopping in Rishikesh:
You will NOT find alcohol and Non Vegetarian food in Rishikesh. This place is most popularly known for the sweets made here. They are made of pure ghee and sure are mouth-watering. Jalebi, Besan Ladoo, Besan ki barfi, Nariyal Barfi and top among the list.
The Laxman Jhula market is most famous for shopping. The things that you can buy here are sarees, shawls and religious artefacts. You can buy local spices from Rishikesh too.

You can opt to stay in one of the Ashrams in Rishikesh. This would be the cheapest and best option. The other options for stay are:
