Who wouldn’t enjoy spending some quality time near a clean beach with the soft breeze blowing over their face? I surely love me some beach time, so I decided to head to Ratnagiri for a weekend getaway from Mumbai.

Bhatye Beach is almost at a walking distance from the resort. It’s a clean beach where you can take a stroll or watch the sunset while the sky bursts with colours.

Look at how clean this is!

Thibaw Palace, the residence of the exiled king of Burma, is an interesting place to visit if you’re into museums and history. It was built in 1910 and now houses a small museum for you to explore.

While looking for accommodation there, I stumbled upon Kohinoor Samudra Beach Resort and booked it right away as it was peak season and very few options were available at the time. Fortunately, it turned out to be a great weekend full of lazy evenings by the beach, good food, and of course, tons of pictures!

Who the property is ideal for

Everyone and anyone looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of a metropolitan city will appreciate this property. But in my opinion, it’s best suited for families because of the plethora of activities available at the property such as a large swimming pool and toy train rides. You can also choose from a variety of stay options depending upon your needs, so it’s a win-win.

About the property

Kohinoor is a leading hotel chain in Maharashtra with a bunch of different properties across the state, but what sets Kohinoor Samudra Beach Resort apart from the others is its prime location and an unobstructed view of the Arabian Sea. My favourite part of the property is its vastness and the fresh air!

You can choose to stay in an executive superior room, a suite or get yourself a private bungalow, all of which come with great amenities. The property has a large swimming pool along with a water slide, a large jacuzzi and an infinity sea lounge. If you’re travelling with kids, there’s a mini pool for toddlers as well as a play area with swings and a toy train. It doesn’t feel like the usual luxury resorts but it’s pretty decent.

My only complaint would be the slow Wi-Fi, less options in the food buffets and lack of proper maintenance but apart from that, the staff is pretty hospitable.

Typical costs at the property

Depending on the season, the number of people and the kind of stay you choose, an executive room will cost you about Rs.3,500 whereas a private three-bedroom bungalow will set you back by Rs.12,000. These prices include a complimentary breakfast as well. You can get other meals at an additional charge but they provide a 20% discount on food if you book directly from their website. You can make a booking here.

Best time to visit the property

The best time to visit the place is from November to February. The temperatures during this time remain pleasant making it the ideal time for sightseeing and other activities. Short trips can also be made during the monsoon months from June to September if you wish to enjoy the greenery.

What to do in and around the property

Ratnagiri has plenty to offer and it’s surely not going to disappoint you. You can stay in and relax at the resort or head out to explore.

Chill and splash by the pool, because why not! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the pool area and absolutely loved the water slides because they brought out the child in me. You can also utilise the play area and outdoor spaces to play frisbee and other outdoor games. They've also got indoor games like carrom and tennis.

While you’re at it, don’t forget to give scuba diving a try at Nevare Beach, because there’s nothing better exploring what goes on in the depths of the ocean!

How to get there

By road: The property is a seven-hour drive away from Mumbai. We left early in the morning and made a bunch of stop overs, so we reached around 3 PM.

By train: You can take a train to Ratnagiri and complete the rest of the journey via cab.
