Ranchi, the capital city of the state of Jharkhand, is known for numerous waterfalls around the city. One such being the Dassam falls. It is no less of an adventure and equally dreadful trip.

It all started when we went to Ranchi to attend wedding ceremony of our friend. However, as we learnt that there is no ceremony on the day we reached and us being a group of three girls who are always ready for adventures, we decided to utilise the time to see places around Ranchi. We instantly booked

Ola rental since we had a hint that we wont get a ride back if we book a vehicle only to drop us at the location. We asked the driver to take us to the nearest waterfall. The driver not being a localite didnt know which is the nearest waterfall. He advised us to visit Patratu Valley instead but we adamant ladies were hell bound on waterfall. To our surprise the driver was very helpful and he immediately enquired with his friends and told us Dassam falls was the nearest to our location, 50 kms. And the journey began....!!!

The road throughout the journey is as smooth as velvet. Kudos to the Jharkhand government. The twist lies in the area which one has to cross to reach these falls. One has to pass through Khunti which is a tribal area.A narrow but smoothly curved road from the NH leads to the falls through Khunti. As soon as we reached this place, our driver started narrating us the stories of murders in and around the area that occurred in the previous week. There were vast stretches of land on both sides of the road however no human was visible till kilometers ahead. Suddenly we saw a group of teenagers blocking our path. It is then when we actually believed that the stories narrated by the driver were true. We immediately closed all the windows and locked all the doors before the vehicle came to a halt and let the driver handle the group. They merely asked for "chanda for saraswati puja" of Rs.30/- and passed comments on us and let us go ahead. Slightly scared, each one of us decided to reach the falls and come back as soon as possible. After a kilometer drive we reached the so called entry gate which was a bamboo gate. We had to pay Rs.30/- as parking charges.

Since we were a bit scared and there was no network in our phones, we decided to take the driver along with us.

Walking a few meters from the parking, we could catch a glimpse of the falls falling through the rocky terrain. Several view points have been created for clicking pictures. Pathway have been paved till one reaches down to get immersed in the waters. The rocks are easily climbable and one may go for rock climbing.Although the sunset would have created a marvellous view,we spent around an hour in the lap of nature and stated our journey back home. This time on our way back we saw tribals were hiding on trees. This was when we were scared all the more. We were quiet but we had one common thought at the back of our minds- if our vehicle punctured on that road, what would have happened. We would not have got any help and may be we would have been wrecked in the village...
