Rajkot has an interesting history. The old city of Rajkot has so many unexplored places which has many surprising stories and importance in history of Gujarat.
On our exploration trips in Rajkot, we visited this place known as "Ka ba Gandhi no delo''.
This is the house where Mohandas K Gandhi's father, Mr. Karamchand Uttanchand Gandhi (Kaba Gandhi) resided at Rajkot, serving as Diwan (Prime Minister) to the King. Mahatma Gandhi also spent a few years of his early life here. This is a typical Saurashtra dela type house with a central approach from an arched gateway. It was built on 1880-81 A.D. and today it depicts an interesting photo essay of his life.
Karamchand Gandhi, the father of the Mahatma was appointed the Diwan of Rajkot State and resided in what is today known as Kaba Gandhi no Delo, located just off the busy Gheekantha Road. The house offers a pictorial tour of the Mahatma’s life with bilingual captions in both Hindi and Gujarati.
An NGO runs classes in sewing and embroidery for young girls within the premises. The Delo is open for public viewing six days a week from 9 am -12 pm and again in the afternoon from 3 pm to 5 pm.
