Gujarat is popular mainly for its heritage monuments, palaces , cultural festivals and food. Apart from these it is also a bird watcher's paradise with its many beautiful lakes like Nal sarovar, Narayan Sarovar, Randarda lake, Lalpari lake, Hamirsar lake etc. Situated in the outskirts of Rajkot, this beautiful Randarda Lake has become a popular bird watching site with a large number of migratory birds arriving at the water body. It is home to many indigenous birds also.
About 167 bird species can be spotted here, which include 15 species of ducks and 8 of fly catcher. Every year around 60 species of migratory birds can be seen here.
This lake is maintained by the forest department and Rajkot municipal corporation. It is near to the popular picnic spot Pradhyuman Park and Zoo. Black tailed god-wit, rosy pastor, pheasant tailed jacana, purple moor hen, pigeon, common teal, pelican and spoon bill any many other birds can be spotted here.
I went to this place on a winter morning with my friends. Though I couldn't click the birds with my basic lens kit, it was an amazing experience to spot those beautiful birds in their natural living. The watch tower gives bird eye view of the lake. Many beautiful flower species can also be found here.
One can spend their morning here to get best views of sunrise and relax in lap of nature.
