Jodhpur is a big Town and has some great hotels and restaurants. I have already made 3 trips to Jodhpur and I cant get enough of it and I realised that Jodhpur is a foodie's and a travellers paradise. I recommend you atleast plan a 3 day trip to this beautiful city and you will be delighted, savouring some great food and some enjoying old world charm.
If you have the money and can afford luxury on your stay in Jaipur do at Hotel Raas or Welcome Balsamand Lake palace and if you are stinking rich stay at the Umed Bhawan. There are budget hotels available as well like hotel Mapple, Hotel Haveli and some more.
Staying in Old Jodhour makes more sence since the main places of attraction are in Old Jodhpur like the Mehrangarh fort, or the ganesh temple or the famous places to eat like Mishri lal, indique and Janta sweets.
If you want to splurge on your dining experience do dine at the Hanuwant mahal which gives a great view of the Umed Bhawan and the food is mind blowing. Definitely try the majestic Thali at Gypsy restaurant which serves 31 dishes in one meal. A trip to jodhpur is incomplete without a visit to Mishrilal Lassi and Janta sweets for their Kachaudi and ghevar.
On my Ist trip I had dinner at Jharokha a roof top restaurant at Hotel Haveli, in old Jodhpur which offers amazing regional Rajasthani food. We tried the Rajasthani Thali in candle light overlooking the beautiful Mehrangarh Fort. The Thali had Ker Sangri, Chana, Rice, bikaneri Roti, dal and some sabji. The Thali was ok, not that great.
If must visit Mehrangarh Fort -A must visit place while you are in Jodhpur. Interestingly the fort has a great cafe - Cafe Mehran, and I savoured on a Juicy Chicken burger and some fresh lime, while my husband had a Ham sandwich. A great well maintained cafe, with such a great Staff, does give you a royal feeling of being pampered by Royalty. If you are in this Fort do try the Cafe Mehran, for some awesome food . The cafe has a great ambience and some reasonable food served in the ambience of this palace Cafe. Do check out the Cafe Mehran pics.
If you want to try some local Food. I strongly recommend you try this place if you are in Jodhpur- Indique Ristorante in Pal Haveli, Old Jodhpur. The restaurant actually is in a Haveli and the roof top has a great view, you could choose to be seated inside or in the open. Do check out the view from the restaurant its beautiful. So both me and my husband were all geared up to try the Laal Maans, a famous local mutton curry and some Bikaneri Mushrooms.
If you want to try some great street food head to Old jodhpur and do not miss Mishrilal hotel's Lassi. Interestingly this place has won the certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor India. The Lassi was nice, but a little too sweet for me, but his Mirchi Wada and Kachaudi was average. This is another place you must not miss while in Jodhpur. This place is close to the Indique Ristorante in Old Jodhpur area.
Head to Junta sweets for a gala breakfast and to Welcome Balsamad lake palace if you love chakki ki sabzi. Jodhpur has to be on your list of must visit cities in Rajasthan. I loved this city and so will you
