The Jaigarh fort is one of the important forts of Rajasthan, indeed Amer and Jaipur built-in 1726 by Jai Singh II. Hence, this fort got named after him for his brilliant way of constructing this masterpiece monument to protect the then constructed Amer Fort by King Man Singh in the 16th century. As the Amber fort was more prone to random attacks around, the Maharaja Jai Singh II has decided to construct a fort that protects the Amber palace all the time.

My birthday vacation to Jaipur was lucky enough for me to visit the city all day all night at various temperatures and various changes. Who can expect rain at the end of the Winter season? Well, unexpectedly and fortunately, my day on Jan 28th, 2020 has started with the sprinklings of rainy drops all over Jaipur. And, at the very time, I have decided to visit the Jaigarh fort.

After a whole day car ride, I felt bored and hence, my driver took me in his tuk-tuk (auto-rickshaw) to the Jaigarh fort. While we were on our way, it started drizzling and the way which leads to the fort looked amazing. I could see the whole Aravalli range mountains and I felt like going away from the city of Jaipur because Amer has already welcomed me with its chilling weather.

By the time, I reached the fort, it was heavily raining. I was scared whether my day could get ruined, but it was raining in the winter season, hardly it stayed for more than an hour. I approached the ticket counter and bought tickets for me and my tour guide. For Indians, it is just 35 rupees and for foreigners, it costs 100 rupees per person.

I could see the patchy fort walls and the huge gates, which welcome people inside the fort. This red sandstone construction is one of the oldest forts and after the Maharajas of Amer decided to move the capital town to Jaipur, they stopped renovations of both Amber fort and Jaigarh fort.

I had entered from one gate and rushed towards another gate under huge closed entrance walls. I have waited for there for a while and I could see two Rajasthani women sheltering under the same gate we stood. I talked to them for a while and just enjoyed the whole exterior beauty of the fort when it was raining.

I was lucky enough to get such a view because I have visited in extreme winter. So, I hadn't expected it to rain. The raw fragrance of the wet soil, the rain-soaked wet floors, the red fort walls, the passages, the large trees and conversations with localite. It was just perfect though it was unexpected. It felt cold enough with the cool mountain breeze and we elevated on top of the hill, which made it even worse.

After a little gap, I have shifted to another gate and then went to a stall that is nearby the gate which leads to a passage to get into the main fort. I had some patties, which were worst enough to describe. I have waited for a while and then the rain stopped. It was kind of drizzling. Hence, I have decided to explore the fort.

Walking on the wet rock floors, getting passed by huge fortified walls, holding myself to get warm from the cold breeze, I have headed to the main entrance which looked vintage enough with its Rajput style construction and yellow paint. This gate leads to inside Palace courtyards which are constructed for a public audience, private audience, soldiers, royal men, royal women, queens, the cooking station, the confusing soldier quarters, the entertainment courtyards and the breathtaking viewpoints.

But to head to all those places, a person must cross the huge courtyards of Subhat Niwas and Khilbati Niwas. The Subhas Niwas is a huge, vast red floored courtyard with a yellow painted pavilion, where the kings used to conduct meetings and events to reach the public audience and people of Amer. This courtyard is especially to set law and order discussions with people.

And then comes to the Khilbati Niwas and Laxmi Vilas Palace, specially constructed for the royal men and women, to relax, to eat, to roam and to speak with each other. These are built for the people from the palace to interact publicly. By the time, I reached the inside premises of Laxmi Vilas Palace of the Jaigarh fort, it became sunny and hot.

Some of the wet floors got dried up very soon because of the open-air courtyard construction, but some places were still wet which made quite a scene with contrasting sunshine with red floors and sandstone fort construction. There is a lot more to share about this fort, but who gets a chance to explore the wetness of a fort in a state with hot temperatures. Hence, I got this blog especially for you to make you explore the Jaigarh fort under the dark clouds and wet soaking floors.
