Places of Interest:
1. The City Palace:
The City Palace veritably is the most famous and most instagrammable place to visit in Udaipur. You can visit the palace yourself or with one of the state approved guides outside the palace. However, entry to the City Palace museum costs extra.
City Palace entry fees: Rs. 30 for adults, Rs. 15 for children
City Palace Museum entry fees: Rs. 250 for adults, Rs. 100 for children. Cameras charged an additional Rs. 250
2. Jag Mandir:
This is a stunning palace located in the middle of Lake Pichola. You can get here by boat. An interesting titbit about Jag Mandir is that the Jag Mandir's design served as an inspiration for the Taj Mahal. Emperor Shah Jahan and wife Mumtaz sought refuge here when he rebelled against his father.
Entry Fee to Jag Mandir is free. Tourists need to pay to reach this place by boat. The boat ride costs around Rs. 300 - Rs. 350 before 2pm and goes up to Rs. 750 per person for rides around sunset.
3. Saheliyon ki Bari:
This garden and the fountains were built for the Queen and her 48 maids. The King Maharana Sangram Singh designed the garden himself and presented it to his wife as her wedding present. It is very easy to reach this spot and several taxis or buses will ferry you from the city centre.
Entry Fee: Rs. 10 per person
4. Monsoon Palace:
The Monsoon Palace found its fame when the James Bond film Octopussy was shot here. The palace is also known as Sajjangarh. The Maharana used to spend his time watching the clouds during the monsoons which is what gives this palace its name. The palace was originally supposed to be five stories but construction stopped when Maharana Sajjan Singh died. Most people come here to watch the sunrise and sunset. Local taxis or autos will bring you to the palace.
Entry Fee: Rs. 10 for Indians, Rs. 80 for foreigners.
5. Bagore ki Haveli - Dharohar Show:
Bagore Ki Haveli is a restored haveli which houses a museum. The haveli is beautifully constructed with stunning courtyard. The haveli is two storied.
The Museum has different sections:
the puppet museum, the Haveli museum, the turban museum, the weapons section and the wedding section which shows an elaborate Indian wedding.
But the highlight of the Bagore ki Haveli is the Dharohar cultural dance show. Artists come and show off the different dance forms of Rajasthan and there's even a puppet show.
Entry fees for the Haveli: Rs. 60 for Indians and Rs. 100 for foreigners. Children are charged half price.
Entry fees for the Dharohar show: Rs. 90 for Indians and Rs. 150 for foreigners. Children are charged half price.
6. Vintage Car Museum:
For all vintage car lovers, Udaipur has a special museum dedicated to cars that the different Maharanas owned. These cars are open for the public. One very interesting fact is that these cars are said to be in working condition even today.
How to reach Udaipur?
1. By Rail: A fair number of trains stop at Udaipur Junction. There are frequent trains from major metros, especially Jaipur. If you want to experience luxury Indian travel, then most luxury trains stop at Udaipur.
2. By Air: Udaipur is very easily accessible by air. The airport is half an hour outside the city. All major airlines have flights into Udaipur.
3. By Road: Several buses ply to Udaipur from the state capital Jaipur. It is also easily accessible by cabs.
