My love affair with Udaipur started back in 2018. I can't quite pinpoint what it was that made me fall in love with this place. Maybe it was the quaint little streets or the breathtaking palaces. No matter how many times I visit this place, there is always something new to experience.
HOW TO REACH UDAIPUR CITY FROM AHMEDABAD?
By Air: The nearest airport is Maharana Pratap Singh airport, serving the city of Udaipur. By Train: The nearest railway station is Udaipur City Railway station.
By Road: The cheapest and the most convenient way to reach Udaipur from Ahmedabad is via roadways. Volvo Bus Charge: Approximately Rs.700-1000.
Udaipur has some of the most beautiful hotels and homestay in the country. One can choose from a plethora of both cheap and expensive hotels and homestays.
Our recommendation:
1. The kehloor- Within 3k, near lake Pichola
2. The Artist house by inde hotels- Within 3k, Nada Khada
3.Radisson Blu Udaipur palace resort - within 15k , Fatehsagar lake
On the first day, I went for a full day city sightseeing tour of Udaipur. I started with visiting the massive City Palace.
1. CITY PALACE was built in a flamboyant style and is one of the largest of its type in Rajasthan. The palace represents a perfect fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles. Built on a hill top, it offers a panoramic view of the city and its surrounding including several historic monuments of the city.
Timings: Museum at the city palace opens at 9 am and closes at 5:30 pm.
Entry fees: There are many combinations in which one can buy tickets. For just entrance to the City Palace premises one has to pay INR 30. For a museum, the charges are INR 300.
This palace's staggering beauty is worth capturing not only in your cameras but also deep down in your memories.
PRO TIP: Go early, it opens at 09:00 am and most people start to pour in late by 10 or 11. So you can have this 1559 built palace all to yourself, for quite some time.
One particular room which had me completely captivated was the The Magical mirror room❤️
Meet- The beautiful Kanch ki bhurj inside Dilkush Mahal
The magnificence of the room can't be expressed in words. It's no longer allowed to get into the room but even from the outside, the sheer opulence shines through.
2. Later, we went to visit Saheliyon ki Bari (Gardens of the maids of Honor) etc.
3. FATEHSAGAR LAKE: Popularly known as FS among the locals, this lake is the heart and soul of every Udaipurite and indeed the most happening place in Udaipur. After a long day at work, it’s the perfect place to sit back and relax.
Don’t miss doing this:
• A bicycle ride around the lake.
• Taking a boat to reach Nehru Garden for sunset views.
Boat ride: INR 30 (Indians), INR 125 (Foreign Nationals), Motorboat: INR 200 (Adult), INR 100 (Child), Speedboat: INR 200-400 for 30 minutes (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM).
4. LAKE PICHOLA: Coming to Udaipur and missing the sunset views from a boat ride in this lake will be an absolute blunder! Pichola Lake is an artificial lake which houses four islands namely Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir, Mohan Mandir, and Arsi Vilas. Flanked by Aravalli hills, bathing Ghats, and heritage buildings, the lake has every aspect which can delight its visitor.
Boat charges: 400 INR (Adults), 200 INR (Children), Sunset Boat ride: 700 INR (Adults), 400 INR (Children)
On the second day of my trip, I visited the off-beat places in and around Ufaipur.
1. BAHUBALI HILLS: Located around 15 kms from the city centre of Udaipur, Bahualli hills stands tall on the not so famous Badi Lake. Recently the place has gained a lot of popularity amongst the Udaipurites and the tourists. Especially, the place has become hotspot amongst those who are looking for pre-wedding shoots. The 360° views of the Badi Lake with Aravalli range in the backdrop is so soothing to eyes.
2. SAJJANGARH PALACE : Also known as the Monsoon palace, it is situated at the top of a hill and provides a perfect panoramic view of the city.The view of the sunset from this palace is stunning. The Palace is illuminated in the evenings, giving a glow of a mixed yellow-white. Timings to visit: 9:30 am to 7 pm; Charges: INR 100.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE VISITING SAJJANGARH AND BAHUBALI HILLS:
1. Don’t forget to carry your camera to capture the stunning images coming live in front of your eyes.
2. Please make sure you wear comfy shoes and cotton clothes as the city has a hot and humid weather and it will take around an hour to explore every nook and corner of these places.
