A few years back, I went to Jaipur from New Delhi with my parents during my vacations. We started off our Jaipur trip, the evening we reached Jaipur. Another 3 days were spent visiting various monuments and historic places. Along the way, we aldso did some shopping and tried out different Rajasthani delicacies. The 'Pink City of India' was a treat for the eyes and the tongues. The culture, the people, the landscape, the food, everything was so different from Delhi where I lived. To sum it up, it was a truly colorful and vibrant trip, one that will remain etched in my memories for the historic appeal and the unique culture of Jaipur.

I started off my trip at the must-visit Rajasthani village themed resort Chokhi Dhani. It was like Rajasthan within Rajasthan. It had a rustic look to it. There were live dance and music performances throughout the evening. I took an elephant ride and also saw a snake charmer performing. There was a puppet show, a magic show apart from the fortune-telling parrot. The whole atmosphere was lively. Dinner was served in a separate hall in the village in a Rajasthani style and with all of us wearing turbans. The food served, as you might have guessed by now, was a typical Rajasthani food. We all enjoyed it and it was the perfect way to end our evening.

The next day, after breakfast, I went to the Birla Mandir, the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. The temple, also referred to as the Laxmi Narayan Temple, is located on a hill. It is fully constructed in white marble.

After lunch, I went to Jantar Mantar, one of the five Jantar Mantar's of India. The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur is considered to be the largest of the five observatories and also houses the world's largest sundial. It houses various architectural and astrological instruments. What intrigued me the most is its strucure. It is bound to catch any tourist's eye and also remains a must-see place for any tourist visiting Jaipur.

The following day, we continued our Jaipur exploration with a trip to the City Palace. Located in the heart of the Pink City, this palace complex is home to the famous Chandra Mahal and the Mubarak Mahal. It used to be the seat of Maharaja of Jaipur.

The Chandra Mahal contains many paintings, mirror work on walls and floral decorations. It is set amidst well laid out gardens and a decorative lake in the foreground.

The Mubarak Mahal, on the other hand, is a museum surrounded by a vast courtyard. It has many spacious rooms and is appealing for its royal ambience.

Hawa Mahal was one of the highlights of the trip. Popularly known as the 'Palace of Winds', it is a beautiful five-storey palace built of red and pink sandstone. It is a pyramid-like structure with some intricate designs. As the name suggests, I felt the calm wind and coolness everywhere in the palace. It has only slopes and no stairs to connect each storey. I got an excellent view of the city from the top of the palace. It also has an archaeological museum.

On the last day of my trip, I visited the Amber Fort which is located on a hill and overlooking Moata Lake. Also known as Amer Fort and Amer Palace, it is built with red sandstone and marble consisting of the Diwan-e-Aam or the "Hall of Public Audience", the Diwan-e-Khas or the "Hall of Private Audience", the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace) or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over the water cascade within the palace. Amber Fort is known for its artistic style, blending both Hindu and Rajput elements. It also has four courtyards each with its own entry gate. Elephant rides are also available upto the main gate of the fort.
