Famously known as the ‘Blue City’, Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Portraying an extravagant splash of colors, mesmerizing bazaars and busy streets, this city is rightly called ‘an exploration to the senses’.
Why is it called ‘The Blue City’?
Some say the colour is associated closely with the Brahmins, India’s priestly caste, and the blue houses of the old city belong to families of that caste. While some argue the walls of all the houses were painted blue to stop the growth of termites. Though the actual reason behind the mysterious blue color remains unknown, the result is a mystical maze, full of blue architecture and delicate details.
