Solo Ride to Udaipur, Rajasthan

It was a pleasant October and I had a chance of getting a 5 day holiday from my office and I was desperate on using every hour of these 5 days blissfully. Oct 5 - 8, 2016 were the dates fixed for my lonely, adventurous and memorable journey.

Oct 8th, seven in the morning, I started my ride from Delhi en route Ajmer. The distance is about 400 km. Every 50 mins once I used to break and I maintained it as a standard protocol. The highway NH 8 was splendid and I loved riding on it. I could cover 40 - 45 km in a single stretch. Even though I was not thirsty, to avoid dehydration I forcefully kept drinking 300 ml of water after every stretch. By 3 pm, I reached Ajmer and checked into a hotel, had lunch and rested for as couple of hours. By evening I went to Dargah sharif, offered prayers and found some inner peace

Oct 9th, 9 am checked out from the hotel and started my onwards journey from Ajmer to Udaipur. The Highway paved got better and better as I kept of riding towards Udaipur. The highway which connects Ahmedabad and Mumbai was a pleasure to ride. On the way I stopped at a place to stretch my back and a passer-by stopped and asked if I was coming all alone and about my protective gears and finally appreciated by shaking hands and congratulated on the success of my journey!! Reached Udaipur in 6 hours time, checked in the hotel I booked through Make my trip and as the closing time was nearing for all tourist attractions, I had to restrict myself only to Sajjangarh Biological park and that was the end of Day 2.

Third day, I started early as I knew that I couldn’t cover all the places planned if I start late. 6.30 am I planned on riding to Kumbalgarh fort which is located 80 km from Udaipur city. Gosh!! I didn’t feel exhausted for a single minute while I was riding 700 km since past 2 days but this 80 km stretch was hell of a ride. It took 2.5 hours to reach the fort but it was completely worth it.

By noon I managed to reach Udaipur again and I visited city palace, Lake Pichola, Lake Palace, jag mandir and finally a breath taking night view of Lake Fatehsagar lit up in the middle of the lake.

Day 4, plan was to visit Sajjangarh fort and return journey till Pushkar. But I was told due to Dussehra, the fort was closed. Travelling 700 kms and returning without seeing fort didn’t make any sense. Hence I decided to at least take a snap from outside. I reached the destination and I was told by authorities that vehicles are not allowed inside and you can trek to the fort if you want. The distance was 5 km one side. Without giving it a second thought, I bought 2 liters of mineral water and started walking on a sunny day. The plan was to reach Pushkar before 6 pm but 4 hrs of my unplanned time was spent to the craze I had to visit the fort.

Around 2 pm I started from Udaipur and instead of catching NH 8 via Beawar, I rode on some other highway via Chittorgarh and kept moving forward. The road was not as good as NH 8 but still not too inconvenient. It started getting dark around 6.15 pm and I had 110 more km to cover. I reduced my speed to 50 - 60 KMPH and reached Pushkar via Ajmer around 9 pm to reach a fine-looking resort where I stayed.

Day 5: The final destination to Delhi (Oct 12, 2016)

Earlier in the day I enjoyed some breath-taking views around the resort and got ready to visit one of the temples in the world dedicated to lord Brahma, the creator. I Performed puja in the famous Pushkar Lake which is surrounded by mountains and is the home of 1000 temples. Keeping in mind that I have 400 km to be covered to reach Delhi, I packed my things quickly and checked out from the hotel and started my way back to Delhi via Jaipur in NH 8. The stretch was to be covered on a sunny day but thank god it was not that hectic. Finally I entered Delhi with a proud smile having covered 1663 kms alone in a span of 5 days.

This was a remarkable journey in my life time and of course completed it successfully. My advice while riding alone would be to take some preventive measures like having a first aid kit, Puncture kit and I had also taken Road side assistance (RSA)from Royal Enfield in case of any break downs. It is also advisable to keep updating your location to your loved ones !! Enjoy the Rides and be safe !!
