Held each November at the time of the Kartika Purnima full moon, Pushkar Mela is India's most highly-rated travel destination, attracting thousands of camels, horses and cattle and visited by lakhs of people over a period of around fourteen days.
For travelers, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the vibrant color along with spectacular carnival of one of the great traditional melas, which not only brings the livestock, farmers, traders and villagers from all over Rajasthan, rather beautifully showcase the vibrant culture of Rajasthan. The Pushkar Mela is also a holy pilgrimage for Hindus, held for 5 days every year from Kartika Ekadashi to Kartika Purnima. Pilgrims that visit Pushkar, come to take a holy dip in the Pushkar Lake and offer prayer to the deity residing in the temple at Pushkar, Lord Brahma.
This is the only temple of the deity in the country, which makes it an important pilgrimage spot for people of faith. The two full moon days are regarded as highly auspicious that calls for special rituals and prayers to the deity.
