Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan and is also known as the blue city of India as the color provides an indigo aura to it with the blue houses surrounding the Mehrangarh Fort. It is also known as the Sun City due to it's perrenial sunny weather, sparse rainfall and is located in the Thar Desert. Jodhpur has various myriad places of interest and is an epitome of historical importance. At the same time, it is also famous for it's well reserved forts that are adorned with exquisite intricate carvings and pieces of art.
My stay at Jodhpur was for a week. The city is full of bazaars and is often crowded with tourists. The labyrinths of alleyways in the old city are unique to the place and overwhelm you with it's bazaars that vend handicrafts, textiles and other beautiful pieces of art. The city is an excellent manifestation of culture blended with magnificent architecture.
Jodhpur is not only famous for it's architecture, but also for the food and shopping purposes. You must definitely look forward to the Tonga rides for exploring the real Jodhpur. The transportation facility is excellent there and taxi's are the most recommended mode of transport which can be picked and the tonga rides are best for people who aim for a journey at economical price and at the same time enjoy the trip.
The various places I visited during my stay at Jodhpur are Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur flying fox, Jaswant Thada, Rao Jodha desert forest park, Janta sweet home, Sambhali Boutique, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Mandore and Mandore Palace, Clock tower and old city markets etc.
Mehrangarh Fort is one of the largest fort in India. There is a lot which can one can discover in the fort. It has a museum which consists of the outstanding collection of the applied arts during the Mughal period in the India history. It also has a professional museum shop. I loved the entire collection of art. It automatically makes you think about how the history would have been. The fort offers a paranomic view of the Blue city. Many events like the Rajasthan International Folk Festival takes place in the month of October. One can spend an entire day also exploring the beauty of the fort. The entry cost is 400 for foreigners and 60 rs for the Indians.
This is meant for all the adventure lovers. Flying Fox offers you the unique oppourtunity to go zip-lining through the Mehrangarh Fort. People in a group of 12 can go for this. It is indeed fun and adventurous. Although i am more fond of water sports activities, trying this was also fun but scary too.
The Jaswant Thada features white marble lattice screen and whimsical domes. The Jaswant thada is full of portraits of Ranthore fighters. It is a peaceful plcae to relax and enjoy the stunning view of the fort and the city. After a tiring day, I liked the peaceful environment and it gives you a sense of calmness and purity. It is opened from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the evening and the entry fees is 30 rs for the foreigners and 15 rs for Indians.
It was developed in the year 2006 with the aim of restoring the ecology of a large rocky wasteland area next to the fort. The most fascinating about this place is that it is interesting to expore this at different time of the year as it's foilage changes with evey season. It is open from 9:00 AM to 5;25 in the evening and one can also hire a guide for this.
A trip to the old city market is a must due to the hustle bustle of the old city. The old city's famous landmark, the Clock Tower stands at the heart of it. The Sadar market next to it has a traditional village market feel and is chaotic and colorful and one can buy the handicraft items and even pick up some spices and masalas.
If travel means food to you, this place is a must visit for you. Janta Sweet home is not only famous for the sweets but also it's iconic snacks menu offered. They are fresh and huge in size. One of the best food found there is Mawa Kachori. Dont miss this. Try. Enjoy.
