Why should you visit Rajasthan?

When I was planning my trip to Rajasthan, a lot of my friends and family remarked, “Why Rajasthan? What’s there?”

I was a bit stunned about their question because, Rajasthan had always been at the top of my India bucket list and I was very excitedly deep diving into my usual travel research. Being the largest Indian state, Rajasthan is quite literally the embodiment of Indian culture, architectural marvels, colors, vibrancy and tales of a long-gone era of kings and queens.

I then made it my goal to enlighten the people in my life about the many wonders of Rajasthan and why your India bucket list will never be complete without visiting the various palaces, forts, museums, lakes and the deserts of Rajasthan!

When to visit Rajasthan

This was the million-dollar question that kept coming up when I was initially researching for the trip. We finally ended up visiting at the end of August, just as the monsoon was getting over. So, we were saved from the scorching summer heat as well as the torrential downpour during the monsoons and all the places would be greener and clean after the rains. We were able to enjoy an overall pleasant climate, the weather being at a steady 32-33 ͦC with the occasional cloudiness and rains. Added bonus, it is still the off-season so we got some pretty good deals on flights and hotels!

From what I read, it is not recommended to visit during summers as the heat would be unbearable. Winters are good during the day, but the temperature goes to extreme cold during early mornings and nights.

Route taken

Our trip was spanned over 6-days covering Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur. We had mapped quite an odd order of visiting the places, which was,

Bangalore > Udaipur > Jaisalmer > Jodhpur > Jaipur > Bangalore.

Geographically, Jaipur is situated towards the east and Jaisalmer toward the west, with Udaipur down south and Jodhpur falling central to these three places and being closest to Udaipur.

Sometimes, when you plan a trip, you run into a wall with respect to flights and dates planned. The flight timings or the ticket prices may not always agree with your planned budget, which affects the overall sequence you had initially decided to visit the places in, and you have to make adjustments accordingly, which was the case with us.

There are airports in all the four places, but there aren’t many frequents flights to and from Jaisalmer and Jodhpur with ticket prices being higher in comparison.
