Extracted from the Chauhan kingdom and the summer abode of the Rajputs Kings, Mount Abu was the home of many saints and sages in the old days. This place is held in reverence by Jains as well since Jain scriptures record that Lord Mahavira, the 24th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader), also visited Mount Abu and blessed the city. According to Padma Purana one night’s stay at Mount Abu has the blessing equivalent to the charity of giving one thousand cows. It was considered the abode of great saints and Gods. These mountains are the oldest ranges in India, as old as water and as fresh as thirst. My trip to Mount Abu was unplanned and random which eventually ended up beautifully. Just make sure you are not visiting the place during summers because it really hot there.
Known for its extraordinary intricate architecture Dilwara temple is the finest Jain Temple. It’s been also compared to Taj Mahal because of the marvellous design and structure. Dilwara Temple consists of five major temples devoted to five jain trithankaras (saints). The entry is free but the timings need to be kept in mind which is 12 pm – 3 pm also no matter how much you would want, photography is prohibited here so it will be better if you leave that outside rather than getting your camera and then fixing up a place to deposit that.
This is the only artificial lake in India at an ht of 1200 mt above sea level situated in the heart of the city with a story behind its creation. People say that that the God’s had dug this lake with their own Nails( Nakh) and thus the name Nakki. When in Mount Abu you should come to this place for Boating, we took a Pedal boat and took a round ourselves that was very exciting.
Just 3 Km from mount Abu, the place is thronged with tourists by the evening. The view is very pleasing and perfect for photography.
It’s a big huge rock which resembles the Posture of a frog leaping from the hill to the water. The view from this place is also amazing and quite. You will not see many people around and thus you may sit for hours in peace.
This was the most interesting point for me. The Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over 288 sq Km and houses around 250+ birds along with leopard, wild boar, Sambar, Langu, Chinkara and Sloth bear. But we couldn’t see all of them and the excitement was limited to bird watching. Still the entire feel was awesome. This place is full of floral beauty and is for people who are more of a nature hound and explorers.
I found it to be the most serene and relaxing. Trevor’s tank is 5 Km from Mount Abu and a photographer’s delight and a popular picnic destination. It’s also called the Trevor’s crocodile park because it’s named after the British Engineer who built this and this tank was used to breed crocodiles.
Take a silent walk, listening to the hustle of leave and the birds chirping. It is a meandering trail that starts from Sun Set road and reaches down to the banks of the Nakki Lake at nearly its South West point.
While I did not had time to give to this place I would advice devote an evening to this place and visit it during the evening. The place offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape during the sunset when the ambiance is very romantic. Famous for the place is a big Rock which is popularly known as Honey Moon Point. It’s an attractive point for the visitors because the rock itself has a shape of a man and a woman and thus also known as the honeymoon point
