Rajasthan trip (Chittorgarh Focus in this blog)
Jaipur airport → Ajmer → Chittorgarh → Udaipur → Ranakpur → Jodhpur → Jaisalmer → Bikaner → Jaipur
Chittorgarh was the first fort in our list to visit in Rajasthan. We hired a taxi from Jaipur airport and reached Chittorgarh in 6-7 hours. We also visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the way to Chittorgarh from Jaipur. The story of the royals starts in the Chittor fort and we were stunned to see the architecture and could picture the story of Rani Padmini, the Mewars and the diabolical Khilji. Though mostly ruins, it was still standing tall to its name as the largest fort in India. The fort had 84 water bodies, out of which only about 22 exist today.
The fort also houses the Padmini palace, Meera Mandir and the Kalika Mata Mandir and many
We also visited the Vijay Stambh, built by Maharana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mohamed Khilji. It is a 9-storyed tower, top storey features an image of the Jain Goddess, Padmavati.
You can visit all the places of interest in a day and there are good hotels for stay in this city of Chittorgarh. Our next stop was Udaipur.
