Started out from Delhi and as we entered Rajasthan, we were greeted by graceful winged hosts of Bharatpur. To our surprise, the forest peeped through its foggy blanket to unveil its raw beauty!
Bharatpur is one of the most coveted birding destinations in the country. Best time to visit is during winters for migrant birds and from March-October for watching resident birds.
Next on our route, close to Bharatpur is a Lake Palace called Deeg Jal Mahal. Flanked by 3 lakes on its 3 sides, the Deeg Palace is a complex of several smaller palaces and gardens. The Palace is worth visiting, especially if you are around in February first week to watch the artificial rain and thunder show, which is the key attraction of the the palace.
They say, whenever there was a drought in Rajasthan, the Jatt Kings rested at the Deeg Bhavan to enjoy a virtual show of rain and thunderstorm, which is an architectural marvel of this palace.
The Dadhikar fort of Alwar is another secluded, yet royal experience to look forward to when in Rajasthan. Our day on dadhikar was a rather short one, but one can indulge into a luxurious getaway by staying at the Dadhikar fort hotel.
Through the narrow gullies of Jodhpur and funny rickshaws, we reached the place that gives the best view of the blue city, Mehrangarh. After seeing the fort, museum and collecting some souvenirs, we went to Mandore Garden, known to be Mandodari's (Ravana's wife) native home. It is also known for its Godless Temples and their architectural beauty. Why the temples have become deviod of God Idols, remains a mystery surrounded by a fog of conspiracy theories!
Our overnight stay was at the Bal Samandh Lake Palace Hotel, which is one of the exquisite royal experiences one would yearn for!
The evening of Jodhpur entertained us with an explosion of flavours and colours of spices at the clock tower spice market.
One of the best days of the RJ trip!
After waking up early next morning and reaching Udaipur by afternoon, we spent the rest of our day at the City Palace and Jag Mandir. This too, was a short stay since we had to catch a flight the next morning. But if in Udaipur, never miss Lake Pichola. If you have a couple of days extra, you must visit Kumbhalgarh, that boasts the second largest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. So is Chittorgarh, a fort that has been standing tall and glorious for over 1500 years now! The fort where Rani Padmavati performed her jauhar. Other attractions in the city are the Monsoon and Summer Palace, Jag Mandir, Hot chocolate by Lake Fateh Sagar and the air of the Lake city!
For me, the trip was serendipitous as it was my birthday and I ran into two old friends who also happened to visit the city on the same day! Truly, Jaane kya dikh jaaye!!
