Looking to travel to Jaipur for a weekend getaway? Here's a quick guide on how to spend 48hrs in Jaipur.
Day 1: Forts of Jaipur (Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Amer Fort)
The 1st one being the Nahargarh Palace. Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the city of Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Along with Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defense ring for the city.
It's a beautiful fort with one of the best views of the Jaipur city. Popular scenes from movies such as Rang De Basanti and Shudh Desi Romance were shot here.
Next visited the Jaigarh Fort, a grand structure perched on the top of the 'Cheel ka Teela' hills in the Pink City of Jaipur.
Jaigarh Fort is made-up of sandstones. Made with the purpose of protecting Amer Fort, Jaigarh fort is considered as the strongest monument of Jaipur.
The one thing that you can see from anywhere in Amer are the huge red walls of Jaigarh Fort.
Mostly known as the Fort of Victory this particular fort is constructed to store the weapons and other military utilities. The gigantic canon Jaivana is the major attraction of the fort along with its exceptional military architecture and other attractions.
And among all, Amer Fort which is one of the most well known and most visited fort, would take almost half a day to visit. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013.
As you enter this fort, it brings to your mind the magnificence of the bygone era. So, there are two ways get to the top of this fort, that is, either take an elephant ride or through private vehicles
We went ahead with the private car. The 1st place that our guide got us to was right in-front of this majestic looking entrance called "Ganesh Pol". They say that the royalty was welcomed here especially as they returned from a victorious battle.
'Diwan-e-Aam' or 'hall of general public' is a hall where kings used to listen to the needs and complaints of common man.
Char Bagh - This is the inner garden of Amer fort. This is a Mughal garden designed to be a geometrical garden.
In-front of the Sheesh Mahal. Sheesh Mahal is considered as a “Jewel in the crown”. Sheesh Mahal refers to a section where walls and ceilings are covered with millions of small mirrors. During night these mirrors reflect light of a torch or wick, resembling stars in the sky.
Tip: Apart from the mirror work, don’t miss the fine inlay work on Makrana (white marble) and the magic flower. This flower has a depiction of 7 different elements in one single flower. It includes the depiction of a fish tail, a lotus, a hooded cobra, trunk of an elephant, tail of a lion, a scorpion and a cob of corn.
Last but not the least, while exiting from Amer fort you will find people taking photographs wearing turban. (20rs for renting the turban). While everyone is posing with the turban, how can i not miss the same :)
The city palace which was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II represents a mix of Mughal and Rajput architecture.
The palace incorporates beautiful gardens, temples and the city palace museum and this adds to its historical significance and splendid royal grace.
The Jantar Mantar which is the largest astronomical observatories of the nation consists of instruments made of stone and they are huge structures used to measure the distances and positions of celestial objects.
Hawa Mahal is the accurate representation of the architectural expertise existent in the past. The name of the palace means the ‘Palace of the Winds’ deserves special mention because of the 953 windows, which are created to maintain ventilation in the castle. The Royal Women, for whom the palace was constructed, could view the occurrences of the city easily from the enormous windows.
Another stunning place to visit in the architectural marvels of Jaipur is Jal Mahal, which is located in the center of Man sagar Lake.
You can also get traditionally dressed up and enjoy several individual photographic shots and get your favourite copy printed in around 10 minutes for just INR 100 per copy.
Don't forget to go for the camel ride which is right in front of the Jalmahal Palace. We also took a camel ride (Baadal was the name of our Camel...the name seems interesting right...filmy...lol).
Also don't miss out on the street shopping just infront of the Jal Mahal. you get stuffs ranging from "Jhutis, show pieces, earings, necklaces, shawls, wall hangings and many more items"
Apart from the magnificent constructions of Jaipur, you must not miss the Rajasthani cuisines offered at every nook and corner.
