Soon Agra will become a Metro City and will rise to the equivalent of those States who flaunt metro trains!

On the 6th of March 2023, Agra received its first train for the Agra Metro Project wherein the train’s engine and coached arrived arrived at Agra Depot in the presence of District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal and metro officials. Sushil Kumar, who is the Managing Director of UP Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) stated that there will be a total of 28 trains for Agra Metro and six for the priority corridor. The train that was built under the Make In India programme in Sanwali, Gujrat, will be equipped with ultra-modern technology and seamless design and can be identified with a distinct yellow colour. The priority corridor is the six-km long corridor from Taj Mahal east gate to Jama Masjid which will have three elevated and three underground stations and the operation of the trains in this stretch is expected to commence by the end of February 2024.

According to Metro officials the priority corridor will be served by six trains, with three coaches each. The train system operating on the metro stations will follow a predetermined schedule of running every five minutes. To ensure efficiency and safety, the trains will operate through a communication-based train control system under Automatic Train Operation. Additionally, the trains will be equipped with modern propulsion systems, which aim to minimize air pollution.

All trains have regenerative braking systems allowing them to capture and reuse 45% of the energy that is generated during braking. The trains are also equipped with air-conditioning systems that use carbon dioxide sensors to adjust temperature and airflow based on the number of passengers on board. This can help save energy by reducing the amount of cooling needed when there are fewer people on the train. Metro trains will be powered by third rail which is a common approach in many cities around the world because it can eliminate the need for unsightly overhead wires and improve the aesthetics of the metro infrastructure. However, it's worth noting that third rail systems can also be more expensive and require additional safety measures to prevent accidental contact with the electrified rail.

• Trains will be equipped with modern fire and crash safety features.

• 24 CCTV cameras will be fitted in each train to prevent incidents. The train’s operator and the depot’s security room will receive the footage.

• There will be 56 USB charging points and 36 LCD displays in each train.
