It was the year, 2019, and I had given back-to-back entrance exams to colleges and universities and still, one was left and I was seriously burned out after giving back-to-back exams, and that too without any break and two or three exams in a day. So I decided to take a break and visit ‘Guru Ki Nagri’ Amritsar so what next I booked the ticket and as I always say I go for budget trips and no better place than Amritsar.

Although, it was not planned earlier and because of the unavailability of a ticket I booked a chair car on the train which cost me 200 rupees and took 9 hours to reach Amritsar but if you planned it earlier then you can go by ‘Shatabdi Express’ which takes only 7 hours. I arrived in Amritsar somewhere around the afternoon and checked into my hostel which cost me 750 rupees for three days. On the first day, I was a bit tired and that’s why I thought I should explore the local market in the evening and explore the street of Amritsar. The next day I started my day my trip by visiting the historical ‘Jalianwaala Bagh’ and the newly built Partition Museum and was looking for any kind of public transport to explore other tourist destinations but won’t able to find one.

While coming out of Partition Museum I spotted a double-decker bus by the name of Hope On and Hope Off and later got to know they take tourists at the cost of 750 rupees. I booked my seat and we started from the ancient Durgiani Temple later GovindGarh Fort and at last the world-famous Wagah Border. The Hope On and Hope Off takes tourists at 11 AM from the Golden Temple and will drop at 7:30 PM. It is advisable to save a complete day to visit the holy ‘Golden Temple’ because it takes a lot of time from the entrance to reach the Darbar Sahib and also the langar hall and if you want to avoid the crowd and rush then-late-night visit is the best option. When in Amritsar it is sin not to visit some food joints like Bharawan da Dhaba, Kesar da Dhaba, Giani ki Lassi, Kanha Sweets, and many more.
