It was Monsoon season.
It was raining heavily all around Pune.
In Rainy season, surrounding area is totally lush green and beautiful Waterfalls all around
As we are Trek Lovers we had covered nearly all places around Pune.
We were looking for new Trek, long before I had read about Madhe Ghat, but was avoiding it as its crowded on weekends.
But as I haven't seen it, so we decided to do it in this Monsoon.
This Place, Madhe Ghat has some history behind it, which is given below
In history, when the great warrior Narveer Tanaji Malusare died in the Sinhagad battle, his body was to be taken for last rites in his native village Umrathe near Poladpur. Tanaji Malusare's funeral procession was taken to his native place from this route, so the Place is called Madhe Ghat.
How to reach here
There are two routes to reach Madhe ghat, Either by Pabhe Ghat or by NH-4 route.
From Pabhe ghat route is Pune -> Warje-Malwadi -> Khadakwasla Dam -> Donje Phata -> Khanapur village -> Take left after 1km from Khanapur -> Pabe Ghat -> on Nasarapur-Velhe Road, take right -> Velhe village -> Kelaad village -> Madhe Ghat waterfall
If you go by the above route, you again seen lush green surroundings some waterfalls on the way and Photogenic places, but no guarantee of Road, which is always is bad condition
Another route from NH-4 is Pune -> NH-4 -> Khed-shivapur toll on NH-4 -> Take right turn at Nasarapur bypass -> Velhe village -> Kelaad village -> Madhe Ghat waterfall
The above road is bit longer, but you will reach faster.
While going towards Kelaad, the base Village we went by 1st way, as I stated above the road was not in good condition and I couldn't go above 40km/hr.
Anyway we reached the base Village of waterfalls, we were stopped by police, they just checked our vehicle if we carrying Alcohol, as they didn't find anything so we were released within a minute.
To avoid the crowd, best thing is to reach early before people, we did the same and reached before the place gets heavily crowded.
We parked the car, started asking information, we could get guide here, but as we are Regular Trekkers we decided to do it on ourselves.
We just got idea to follow the path, on the way we will see the Madhe Ghat Waterfalls and again we have to Descend and we reach the platue of Karnawadi, from there we need to take left turn and start ascending to Upande Ghat.
They said Markings done on stone just follow the markings, we did the same, we started our Trekking.
In 10 to 15 mins we reached the Madhe Ghat Waterfalls, it was all fog around, we had some clicks and started descending.
The route was quite steep, muddy and fog all around. On the way we came across multiple waterfalls, birds crippling which made our day.
We kept on walking following the directions and reached the platue which was told by the guide, the platue was lush green and very beautiful, we started to see the arrow which taking us to Upande Ghat, we saw one arrow and again we started following it, but the arrow was taking us down (descending) my mind was signalling that we missed the road, as the mountain and nature appearing magnificent we kept following the path.
Soon we landed in village, there we came to know we followed the wrong direction from platue 😁
But the scene which we captured from the village were so amazing which didn't made us regret to follow wrong direction.
The villagers were quite friendly, they explained us how they live, how they doing rice farming.
We had cup of tea and asked them the way to Karnawadi.
Then with the help of Villagers we reached Karnawadi and from Karnawadi we reached Upande Ghat.
We missed the way so the Journey was around 6 to 7 hrs, else it's a simple trek of around 2 to 3 hours, depending on Peoples endurance.
Finally we reached back to our car, got fresh, we were tired and we decided to reach home via 2nd route as described in the beginning.
At the end we ended our day with lot of unforgettable experience and memories.
