My most awaited break for the month has already come to an end, and hell yeah, I’m so refreshed. I’m back to work and I write this blog since I was eagerly waiting to share my weekend getaway. I was off for 3 days and 2 nights holidaying in Pondicherry. From the beaches to the people, there is immense warmth and tranquility around. It’s your perfect weekend trip if you like beaches, good food and beer, and of course some peace.

We arrived around 7a.m. in Pondicherry and checked-in at Full moon guest house (Kottakoppum) which is not your ideal guest house if you prefer staying at a fancy place. This place was more like home which was neat and tidy with basic amenities and a kind family who are running the place. What else would I want? Besides, the bikes which the guest house provided made commuting so convenient.

Around 9 am, we ventured out on our bikes looking for some decent breakfast places. La Terrassae ( Subiah Salai, near MG beach) served us basic English breakfast with reasonable prices.

There is no dearth of good restaurants in Pondicherry ( I wish I had enough money to go hopping about restaurants, Sigh). For a south-Indian breakfast, I preferred having it at a local place since Hotel Surguru was simply over-rated. The reason I was disappointed with Surguru was probably because I come from a place like Bangalore, where every corner offers authentic south Indian food.

Next, we headed to the place that has made Pondicherry, a place for such serenity and lucidity. Sri Aurobindo’s Ashram was not on my list for some reason. But the first time I went there, it prompted me to visit the place the second time as well. The tranquility and simplicity of the ashram was a good change, especially if you come from a metropolitan city, this place is a good way to shut your mind off from everything. Don’t forget to grab a book from the ashram.

We made our visits to the ashram on almost all the days of our stay. We covered the botanical garden on the second day. Besides, Auro beach and the MG beach is something you cannot miss. The temples and churches are known for their beautiful architecture, especially the Jain temple in Anna Salai (worth a visit). Unfortunately, we missed out on Auroville-the main highlight of Pondicherry. This is the first place you should cover and make sure you book a slot a day prior to your visit since it has prior bookings.

If you love pizzas and beer, then this is the place to be. Beer is cheap, and pizzas here are to die for. Auro Pizza ( opposite to Adyar Anand Bhavan) spoilt us rotten. Till the night we left, we ate the pizzas away to glory. We had a share of the pizzas at Celine’s Kitchen, but nothing could beat Auro. Celine’s Kitchen, however, has a lovely outdoor setting with hues of yellow and green and is an ideal place for lunch or dinner.

Pondicherry was a good start for me as I wish to venture every month to a new destination, henceforth. This is your place for a good weekend. Along the way, I came across people so warm and affectionate which makes me want to come back here again
